Description of 1970 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic |
This auction is for a black 1970 Volkswagen Beetle.Off the bat, I think I should make very clear that this car has problems, but the engine and transmission are not among them. They work great. Better than great. I love the engine and transmission on this car. The only reason I'm selling this car is that I don't have enough money to treat it the wayit deserves to be treated. The engine was rebuilt five or six years ago (after I was rear-ended at a stop light) and it just had a tune-up a few months back. On the same trip I also just had the front axle replaced, but after that, the wheel doesn't turn all the way to the right, so making really tight right turns are off the table. It's probably an easyfix for a good bug mechanic. And the axle seems to have been set slightly too low (or the shocks are awful and need to be replaced) so if you hit a bump while turning, your wheels might scrape against the outside edge of the wheel well. Speaking of the wheel wells, the front right and back left wheelwellsare dented from being hit, or hitting something, and the back left has some rust because of it. There are also spots of rust on a few other places on the exterior where paint was chipped away. I believe you can see most of it in the pictures. You may have noticed the broken window in the pictures. That happened a couple of weeks ago after I had decided to sell the car, so I decided not to fix it, and I believe there is no glass left in the cab, but I leave room for human error. The current back left wheel is the spare, cause my tire was slashed. The normal wheel is where the spare would be, and I have a tire for it as well. I just never got around to getting it put on. In general, it really looks like the car could use a heavy redo of the electrical system, but under the hood doesn't seem to faze any bug mechanics I've taken it to. It could look better though. The one thing that annoys me more than worries me is that there seems to be a gas leak along the pipe that brings that gas to the engine. I don't know exactly where it is, but it's pretty close to the engine. It is a very slow leak that takes days to make a real dent, so I don't even know how long it's been there. I just noticed it a few weeks ago. At different times in its life, well before I owned it, this care was both a race car and a show car. It was also fully pink at one point. Just thought you'd like to know. Now the list of things that do NOT work:
