Description of 1966 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon SO 42 |
1966 Westfalia camper SO-42 Walk-through Pop-top Westfalia Camper Here's the story: I bought this bus early this year from Ohio. This bus was brought to Ohio from California in 2001 and was hardly driven since then, mostly in a tarp garage in Ohio by the previous owner. While he had it, he previous owner put new tires on it and a new steering box and has recent front end work so it steers and drives very well. I bought the bus earlier this year and installed a new engine AH case dual relief 1600 with single port heads and intake (have receipts), new heater boxes and proper muffler system. I also installed a new starter, changed the trans gear oil and RGB oil. I installed new interior curtains and front seat foam and upholstery, new front rubber mat. Brand new pop top canvas is installed too! 12v system with new battery. Also has new battery, new German braided fuel lines, and of course new plugs, wires, cap, rotor! I have a couple boxes of new body rubber to use after paint if you go that route. I have put 1700 miles on the bus in the last month or so, lots of camping, it drives 65 eventually but i prefer to stay under 60mph. The over-sized tires help with that a bit and keep the RPMs low. It needs body work (inner and outer rocker, rear corner and battery tray, jack points, front floor patches and edge of cargo floors) to be pretty, Or it's solid enough to drive as is. It was originally Pastel White. I was averaging 20+mpg on the last 800 mile trip around Michigan at about 62mph average. Single port engine has plenty of power. The radio doesn't work nor do the windshield wipers, or the fuel gauge. Everything else that i can think of works. Rear foldout bed works fine, it has the jump seat and portable stool. The ice box cabinet is not proper for this year but it works. Matching spare tire. This bus has NOT been hacked up through the years so its a good candidate to drive as is or restore. I bought this bus as my ultimate camping van, but my wife likes the Vanagons way better so this bus has to find a new home! DO NOT ask if this will make it across the country! No one can guarantee that ANY car can make that trip, do it at your own risk. If you do, bring tools, spare parts, and the Muir book and you got a good chance. Clear Michigan title ready to go. See pics for details, ask reasonable questions or come see it in person with cash. Bid often and bid to win. I also reserve the right to sell locally. If you need anything let me know! It's an old bus. It is sold as is so come see it or ask for any questions you might have BEFORE you bid. I try to be as accurate and realistic as possible with my descriptions but everybody has different ideas about condition. ASK, BID, WIN! I will sell internationally, you arrange shipping AFTER payment has fully cleared. paypal deposit and bank transfers welcome. THANKS!! |
