True 1971 Karmann Ghia barn find. That phrase gets thrown around a lot. but this one was found in a barn in rural Utah after sitting for roughly 20 years. The body is pretty ugly, but other than the rocker panels, rear quarters and the passenger side floor panels, it in pretty good condition for its age. The rocker panels and rear quarters are almost always to be expected on any of the Ghia's that have ever seen water because of the body design. It was registered and driven (and in his words "loved dearly") until 1998 when the previous owner graduated college, got married and bought something modern. At some point in the first year that it was parked in the barn, the owner started sanding it down to look for body filler and signs of any accidents (nothing seems to have been found in that department) and to find the original color (yellow), but that's about as far as hewent with it, because the front clip was sanded to bare metal and was never primered or anything. So, it has surface rust covering that area in its entirety. luckily it was parked inside and it didn't turn into cancer. The car is probably about 99% complete. The engine turns freely by hand and the tranny seems to be in working order. One of the front seats needs to be recovered, the other front seat and the rear seats are in nice condition. The white roof liner is also in nice condition other than a few places that it needs to be tacked back up. The drivers side rear wing window is out of the car, but is in one of the parts boxes, complete with hinge. This car will make a good project or a very good parts car. Comes with a few boxes of random spares. Door hinges, wing window, antenna etc. I want to be as straightforward as I can with this listing. This car will need some TLC. but anyone with a little knowledge of type 1 VW's (or vintage VW's in general) knows that a little can go a long way... and the prices and collectability on these cars are skyrocketing... and even at low points for a lot of collectibles, they just seem to keep going up. So, to get a good project to start with is the key to getting things rolling. I feel like that is what this car is. I'm listing it because I have another project that I need the cash to go towards and i simply don't have the time or the storage space needed to keep the Ghia... So, feel free to ask me any questions that you may have. It DOES NOT come with the old steel wheels, but DOES COME WITH mag wheels pictured on the main photos of the car. It does, however, come with the original steel wheel and spare tire. Again, no reserve on this auction. I recently had it listed and had a ton of interest in the car, but because I didn't do an advanced listing, I couldn't upload photos. The time wasted on thay listing, has made me want to move this car even more quickly than before. So, I have dropped the starting price by $500 and set it for a five day auction ending on monday. I could possibly entertain a good solid offer on the car. Title is included. buyer is responsible for pickup and any fees involved with pickup of the vehicle. But, I will be happy to help load transport, if needed. Thanks for looking. Happy bidding. One last thing. I hooked it up to a battery booster box and the dash lights all came to life. So, that was a very good sign as well. Its things like this that make me wish that I could restore this car... but i just don't have the time. I guess that my loss is the winning bidders gain.
