Description of 1982 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon BUS/VAN |
1982 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia motorhome van.WV2ZG0251CH027775 The present owner had an interest in keeping this vehicle as original as possible while consistently maintaining it to be a trouble free vehicle. This van is in exceptional survivor (original) condition. Owner has had this van for 14 years. It is a full camper that sleeps four people with one lower bed and a pop up roof provides another bed above. This van is a very rare model that was only available in 1982 and 1983. It is a 4 speed standard transmission. It had a 1.6 litre diesel that was fuel efficient but lacked power and speed. The owner installed a low mileage intercooled 1.9 litre turbo diesel which came from a 1997 Volkswagen Passat which doubled the horsepower and increased torque. Coupled with a custom geared transaxle which has updated synchronizers. This combination of engine and transmission gearing allows one to travel at freeway speeds while still enjoying the highest possible fuel economy. Stiffer side wall 15 inch tires mounted on “Go Westy” rims provide better handling and more clearance than the original 13 inch tires. The engine conversion was completed 10 years ago and it has been very reliable. This van has just over 200,000 km (124,000 mi.). If driven at 100 km (62 mph) you can expect 8.0 litres per 100k or 35 miles per gallon. New stabilizer arms and new front brakes have been installed this past year. Besides its power and economy, it is a pleasure to drive on long trips. It has never been driven in the winter and has always been stored indoors. Both front seats have been completely rebuilt and recovered in the factory original fabric. The rubbers and seals in the pop top are new. The cabinetry is free from marks, scratches and dings and in excellent condition. It has a phenomenal amount of storage space. This Westy has it all: a 3-way fridge (12v, 110v and propane), a gas stove and a sink. There is a 15-gallon fresh water tank with an electric pump to bring the water up to the sink. Alternatively connect a garden hose to city water and use that to fill the sink. Simply turn the tap one way and the water draws from the onboard tank, turn it the other way and the water comes from the outside city hook up. There is an auxiliary deep cycle battery located in the cabinet. There is an electronic light indicator which displays the cabin battery and water tank levels. There is an interior light which runs off battery and another that runs off 110 v electric. All the appliances work as they should. There is a complete set of original curtains in excellent condition which completely encloses the van for privacy. The side windows have screens and the tent on top has a screen plus a screen which attaches to the back hatch. There is a patch on the front side of the the popup above the zippered window. The upholstery is in excellent shape with no tears or stains the original carpet is in excellent condition. It has a new trailer hitch and it can pull a light trailer. The van measures 16 feet from bumper to bumper and fits in a standard garage. There is a small dent on the back hatch and on the passenger door, as well as a light scrape on the sliding door.
