Description of 1980 Volkswagen Rabbit L |
After a few years of woking on and putting money into this restoration project, I've decided to move on to something else. Up for auction is my 1980 Volkswagen Convertible. I am the 4th owner. It's the first year of the convertible with the original engine and was originally silver, but had been painted in a flat black by the prior owner.I've puta lot of work put into it. I'll do my best to describe below. The GOOD: In the 3,500 miles I have either fixed or replaced the clutch, bushings, axel boot, cooling fan, alternator, EGR box, coolant flush, shocks, struts, e-brakeand timing belt. I have service and repair records for everything listed. Car starts right up and is fuel injected. It shifts, runs and stops as it should. All lights come on and no check engine lights. It has a newvinyl top that was professionally installed in 2015($2,500) All new vinyl interior seats and carpet/insulation in correct oxen red color in 2016 ($3,200) Has original motor, grill, golf ball shit knob, steering wheel, GTI rims. Great on gas! Over 30 mpg. Tires have a good amount of life left in them. Passed MA safely inspection back in May of this year. Glass, wipers, radio, gauges all function. I have had it up to 80 on the highway with no issues. I have several manuals and repair books to include plus all of the side trim/rocker panel trim and badgesas well as a rain tray and jack (though probably not functional) Frame is in good shape and no issues with the undercarriage. Vintage Blaupunkt cassette player (circa 1984) NO LEAKS or SMOKE which is rare on these models. THE BAD: It's a new england car that is 37 years old. It does have some body issues. There is some rot on the lower panels and fenders and likely will need to be replaced, although it was not so bad it did not pass inspection. There are also some areas near the firewall that need spot welding to repair as water had collected in the cowl under the windshield several years ago. A few places rust is bubbling up (near antenna). Panels and fenderscan be purchased online and a respectable job can be completed if you are handy. There you have it. I have this listed locally soI reserve the right to end the auction early ifI find an interested buyer. Thanks for the interest and let me know if you have any questions. |
