Thoroughly serviced and reconditioned, this essentially a restored bus. It is in excellent condition and a real head turner, but not so perfect that you wouldn't want to use it. Having been in Texas for many years, this bus was dusty but not rusty. Over the course of the project, this bus has had most of it's mechanical components replaced, it has been disassembled and painted inside & out, then reassembled with lots of new parts. The interior was reupholstered and the cabinets are refurbished. The overall look of the bus is stock/original/correct although there are a few minor changes some buyers may notice. The bus runs and drives well and is a very fun vehicle in general. We will gladly answer any questions and provide more details about this build and these vehicles. Additional photos can be found on our website. Please note that due to the age, a Carfax report is not available. We do however have a clear title in our name.

Buyer must contact us within 24 hours with their information for the ownership paperwork and be able to receive, sign and return a bill of sale. Furthermore, we ask that the buyer please be prepared to pay for the vehicle within 7 days AND promptly arrange to pick it up or have it transported as we have limited space.
Auto Focus is a licensed, independent NC dealer. We have a $299 documentation fee. We handle the title & registration process for NC, SC and VA buyers and will collect for the associated tax and registration costs.
We will gladly provide transportation from our local train station or airport (PTI) for folks who want to inspect a vehicle in person, as well as for the winning buyer. All business is conducted during our regular hours. For more details about our business or to see the rest of our inventory, please visit us online at myautofocus.
More details about the bus:
We purchased the bus in Texas in April, 2014. The last title was issued in 1988. We have re-titledthe bus in North Carolina. This bus was solid, rust free and pretty original when we got it, but also a bit sun baked, worn and dirty. It ran and drove, but needed to be refreshed. We began with a thorough washing to address the Texas dust & dirt. Next came replacing the brakes & suspension which included the following service and new parts: ball joints; tie rods, drag link, front wheel bearings, 4 shocks, brake master cylinder, 4 brake hoses, rear shoes & wheel cylinders, front rotors & pads, CV axles. Once the bus was driving better it went out for paint. It was disassembledand taken to bare metal then repainted back in the same color inside & out. The fiberglass pop top and bumpers have also been painted. Meanwhile several large orders were placed with the busdepot for the reassemblyprocess. The bus went back together with a new tent & top seals, window & door seals, exterior handles, bumpers, lights & lenses, antenna plus the black wheels and General Grabber AT 2 tires. The interior is bright, clean and fresh and has been completely updated with the front seats redone (cushions and covers) new retractable seat belts, new door panels, stereo (with USB port) & speakers, steering wheel, carpet, rear seat, & bunk upholstery, new Baltic Birch paneling in the back, new curtains, and refurbished cabinets with new Formica and addition of mini-fridge. The rebuilt engine is a 2.0L from a '77 bus and is setup with twin Weber carburetors, and stock exhaust & heater boxes. There are of course many, many more new parts, and far more work involved than what's mentioned here.
As mentioned above, this bus has been built with a focus on keeping with the original style and look but does have some minor changes/updates from a completely stock 1974 Westfalia. These include:
2.0L engine (original was a 1.7) Weber carburetors (originals were Solex) - for more power and ease of obtaining partsBlack wheels (originals were silver) All terrain tires - for an adventurous look, plus we already had themBlack handles (originals were chrome) - replaced to have a matched lock set and to go with black wheelsBlack carpet (originally orange) - Black was easier to get and breaks up the sea of orangeRetractable seat belts (originals were fixed) - new, safer, easier to useFull size spare mounted in back with cover instead of mini closet (original spare was collapsible, and mounted in the sink cabinet) - safer and easier to use, plus the cabinet being gone makes the interior brighterGunstock color stain of the rear paneling (original was a printed veneer)Refrigeratorcabinet with solid top and drawer (originally just an ice box) - the original cabinet was difficult to open and in bad condition, the 12V /110V fridge seemed like an obvious upgrade. The drawer provides good storage.Stereo system (obviously modern) - original radio was long gone in favor of an 80's system that had to goGray curtains with orange stitchingABS plastic front kick panels - originals were cardboard/masonite
Things that are just clearly wrong/incorrect:
Turn signal lever is from an older bus - we just couldn't find one for a '74Chips in the paint on the rear bumper - from parking too close to the bushesRails for headliner got painted overDash was cleaned but not repainted and shows some wear
We expect most buyers will see the big picture of a beautiful, classic VW bus that is solid, in proper working order, tastefully redone and in great condition. These vehicles are fun to drive, fun to camp in, bring smiles & waves everywhere you go and all the while are going up in value.
