Description of 1989 Volkswagen Rabbit Wolfsburg |
Purchased in late July 2015Did not notice crack in windshield so that was replaced with an excellent 1981 Rabbit truck windshield and new Bus Depot OEM (non-glued) seal in early Jan of 2016. No leaks, no rust in this prone area! Also had a wiring issue around this time (to starter), so installed a new starter, ignition switch, and bypass toggle to solve this under dash issue and have never had a starting problem since. Starts in subzero temps. This car never sits as I know this causes all sorts of issues. Driven every week to keep her "active ".All gauges work, all lighting, HVAC fan and levers, wipers, rear defrostTop is in great shape (including headliner) with minimal side leaks (towels on front seats solves this as does constant wet-vacuuming after heavy rains if needed, also I use a cover). No surprises. Small insignificant coolant leak, small blue smoke on start up that vanishes quickly, small oil amounts found near previous owner 's silicone aided intake gasket fix - all minor (no leaks under car (oil), have not sourced coolant leak due to tiny amount and very infrequent - every three months maybe add 3-5 oz? if that) Exterior rust shown, SteelWeld stick used(no punch thru) and paintedRubber top seals in good shape despite small drips in heavy rain (thigh bolsters and front floor carpet get a little damp that is it)Vent butterfly window seals look oldbut also do tge job to present day! Found some rust inside pass side wheel well, so scraped it out, naval jelly'd with toothbrush multiple applications, then sprayed undercoating material (3 coats) to stop it. Wordy here in my listing to a benefit ... because I do not want to sell it - oh yes, the power steering is out (rack issue, fluid seeped out driver's boot, that was a year ago, still drives fine w/ reservoir empty just difficult for weaklings (or wife) in parking maneuvers - just fine when at speed.See maint log I keep in pics - expensive brake work done a year or two ago. Removed oneAC line, removed allCC components (swapped correct stalk)Ask me ... anything! Lots of quality (OEM grade, Bosch, FAG, Mahle) parts to maintain for wife's initial daily driver duties. Will include spare "bible" Bentley mechanics manualCar has original g-box manual and VW original paperwork indicating Texas originsODO works sporadically - usually when cold- estimate 170k miles.. bought with 156k, 3-5k a year ... now reads what I listed ... worked the other morning, for example, when I drove the VW and parked/marketed it to college kids here in my home town I have viddy/audio of her on: start up, sitting at idle w / hood propped, and at speeds of 35-40 but know no method to include here, sorry. Perhaps this can be arranged for me to send these clips to you? |
