Description of 1962 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic Deluxe |
Here is the plan. I am moving out of state so I thought it might be a good time to put my Bug project up for sale so I don't have to move it. I can always take it with me if I have to, but selling my Bug might be a better outcome. That said, here is what I have; a 1962 VW Type 1 (Beetle) Deluxe sedan. I bought it from the original owner (still have the original signed "pink slip" and black plates from 1962). I had the Bug repainted in the original Gulf Blue color after doing the appropriate bodywork (I used to own a body shop that painted Ferraris). The paint used was the same Glasurit single stage paint that the factory used. I have a photo album with the bodywork/paint photos. All of the exterior parts (bumpers, lights, door handles, etc.) are there I had a new, reproduction OE style interior installed including all new window/door rubber seals. The dash has a radio delete plate and the speedo was set to "0" after being refurbished. This was the first year of the gas gauge, a mechanical unit that works. Also, it has the original glove box lining with an OE owner's manual included. The paint/bodywork and interior are done. What is left to do is the mechanical part. The front suspension/brakes are installed. The brakes are Porsche 356B 11" aluminum drums for all 4 wheels (only the fronts are on at the moment). They have all new parts including wheel cylinders, hardware, wheel cylinders, brake linings, etc. The shocks are NLA Konis F&R. There is an original Empi Camber Compensator for the rear (not installed yet). The front beam is a new unit with ride-height adjusters. The steering box is rebuilt and there is a new steering damper installed. The rear suspension hasn't been done yet, but there is a rebuilt transmission (Jim Kaforski) ready to go in along with the Porsche brakes, Koni shocks and camber compensator. The transmission has a 4.125 final drive ratio which will give a more relaxed top gear experience. In addition to the "roll around" wheels on the car, there are 2 sets of wheels. One is a new set of silver painted Mangels (4.5 & 5.5x15) steel wheels and another set of silver widened Porsche 6x15 wheels. The engine is disassembled, but is ready for assembly with these notable parts. DPR 69mm counterweighted crankshaft 90.5mm piston/cylinder kit Dual port heads Lightened 12v flywheel New bearings An "H" case that has been tumbled and ceramic clear-coated Drilled for full flow filter Kadron dual 40mm carb set up with early mesh filters Estimated power with this combination is 100 HP.
