1986 VW Vanagon 1.6T Diesel Synchro

Regretfully selling my 1986 Syncro Vanagon, that I have enjoyed working on and driving over the years, it has been on many a family adventure. My wife and I have decided to let it go to someone who can get it back on the road where it belongs. I received a kidney transplant in April of 2016 and just don't have the money, time or welding skills to finish this project.

The engine is a 1992 1.6 Jetta Eco-diesel with 45K miles, that delivered 32.5 mpg when last running. There is an air to air inter-cooler from a Saab 900 and the K14 turbo from the Jetta eco-diesel.

The van suffered a failed water pump leading to a blown head gasket. The water pump and head gasket have replaced and oil and filter have been replaced but it has been sitting for 3 years and will need a going over.

There is a new drivers side motor mount but it requires some welding on the drivers side engine bar to finish the motor mount install.

Has VW JX turbo assist fuel pump from German Turbo Diesel Syncro Plus spare Jetta eco diesel fuel pump.

The transmission comes from a German Diesel Syncro Vanagon that I located in Canada and installed with a Jetta VR6 flywheel & clutch

The HD Timing belt with less than 5000 miles.

Engine instruments include; a tach from a German Turbo Diesel Syncro, oil pressure gauge, Boost gauge, EGT gauge, temp gauge.

Currently set up as two wheel drive with front drive shaft removed, no lockers.

The viscous coupling was starting to get aggressive and will need to be rebuilt, parts and fluid available on eBay.

I Have all the driveline parts and many Vanagon spares

As with most of these, they are a labor of love and a work in progress.

I wanted to put in a small diesel furnace but never got around to that project.

There are front curtains and curtains for all rear windows and a screen for the backand a storage area under the bed.

It is set up for dual battery system

Installed HD headlight relays and HD glow-plug relay

Slide the futon out and you have a super cargo hauler

Bentley manual included and VW specialty tools included

Has some seam rust starting, as to be expected on 30 year old vehicle but under carriage and frame are good.

Hate to see it go but it need so go to someone with equipment and expertise to get it back on the road.

Will need to be trailered to it's new home. Located in Chippewa Falls Wisconsin. Have clear title in hand. Buyer responsible for transport.
