Description of 1962 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic Refurbished in 2004

This 1962 Volkswagen Beetle was refurbished in 2004 which included refinishing the body in its original Turquoise and reconditioning the factory 1.2-liter flat-four and a four-speed manual transaxle. About 5k miles have been added since the reconditioning, and chassis mileage is approximately 231k miles. This Type 1 is now offered with service records, some vintage registration cards, bumper and other vintage OEM parts, and a clean Virginia title in the seller's name.
The body was removed from the pan in 2004 for the interior and exterior repaint in Turquoise (L380). Damage experienced thereafter required the replacement of three fenders. The front and rear bumpers have been rechromed; the rear overriders are installed. The unmounted front overriders are included in the sale.
Body-color 15″ wheels are adorned with chrome VW hubcaps.
The six-volt electrical system is retained. Corrosion is visible at the front near the Wolfsburg crest and the trunk handle. Very little rust has been found on the vehicle and most, if not all undercarriagefloorboards are original.Drum brakes and torsion-bar suspension are equipped at each corner.
The white vinyl seat covers and horsehair padding were replaced with material similar to what was originally installed in the car. Features include flip-forward low-back seats, a Wolfsburg-crest horn ring, dual sun visors, and no seatbelts. Some glue sealing the trim is coming through the felt in areas. Photos show the carpets, glovebox, and rear parcel shelf, while the headliner shows some staining.
The fuel gauge was new for 1962 and is situated next to a 90-mph VDO speedometer with an inset odometer registering 31k miles. The odometer has rolled over twice. An aftermarket AM/FM cassette radio has replaced the original Blaupunkt radio.
The flat-four with 1,192cc displacement was refurbished in 2004. Features include a six-volt coil and a single-downdraft carburetor topped by an oil-bath air cleaner. The tin and shroud are finished in black. A revamp of the fuel system in July 2019 reportedly included recoating the fuel tank and installing a new fuel pump.
A matching Turquoise wide-five spare wheel resides in the front compartment.
Included photos show the engine-case stamping as well as the body tag riveted to the front bulkhead of the trunk.
Service records and other paperwork are available upon request.
