Description of 1963 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon 1947 International Bus

This bus is currently registered with antique 1947 plates here in Oregon as a antique motor home, it does have a bathroom and kitchen, it does need work and the engine is not running, it has low compression.I had my friend rebuild the Brake wheelcylindersand bleed the system in preparationto getting it running.Our plans were to install a Cummings straight 6 diesel engine and automatic transmission out of a mid 1990's Dodge pick-up but sadly my mechanic friend Wade passed away and now the bus is up for sale.History as to why I bought the Bus
Ken Kesey who wrote 'One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest" and was friends with the Grateful Dead, built the iconic Furthur Bus.Furthur is a 1939 International Harvester school bus purchased by author Ken Kesey in 1964 to carry his "Merry Band of Pranksters" cross-country, filming their counterculture adventures as they went, and with Ken Babbs at the helm, the Furthur Bus made the trip to Woodstock in 1969.Furthur has been immortalized in song, Kid Charlemange by Steely Dan, Magical Mystery Tour by the Beatles, and of course Magic Bus by the Who ( who actually wanted to buy Further... " You can't have it!")
In 1989 Ken bought another bus, a 1947 International Bus. Ken and the Merry Pranksters with the new Furthur, toured the west coast, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland and was shipped to England for a tour of England, Scotland and Ireland. In 2014, Zane Kesey, (Ken's son) and Derek Stevens took Furthur on a 29 state, 15,000 mile tour honoring Ken and the Merry Pranksters original 1964 trip throughout the U.S.The body of the bus is in really good shape, it is mostly aluminum with 3 or 4 coats of peeling paint on it and almost no corrosion, the steel parts of the exterior has some surface rust but I have not noticed any rusted thru spots. The inside of the 23 window has the normal rust a old 23 window bus has and will need some work. Several of the window are cracked or broken and will need to be replaced. Most of the windows were a painted black on the inside as it was last used as a haunted house in a corn field but for many years a lady lived in this bus, as the story was told to me.My wife and I loved the thought of getting it running and going to the Oregon Country Fair and doing a Further Paint job there and then going to Burning Man!!!!
The bus will need to be towed to its new home as it is not running. The bus was towed to Bend, Oregon from the Portland Oregon area last year. I had my friend rebuild the Brake wheelcylindersand bleed the system in preparationto getting it running. I feel it would not take much to make it into a tiny home, but with a engine transplant it would be a awesome Hippy Motor Home.
