Description of 1974 Volkswagen Thing -- |
Thanks for looking at my 1974 Volkswagen VW Thing. Mirror-like Orange color over black interior. Selling because I don't drive and enjoy it as much as it deserves to be driven. I've owned this car for 2 1/2 years and purchased it out of Palm Desert, CA where the previous owner meticulously almost perfected the exterior. I say "almost" because someone is bound to find something wrong, even though it looks absolutely amazing. The previous owner took the entire exterior apart and painted it. All new spline seals replaced and any body work needed was done and it was painted the original orange color. It was noted that zero rust was found on the body. New tires were installed and they have plenty of tread left. The soft top is in good shape as it has 2 areas that were sewed together nicely and the rear window is clear. I have all 4 side windows. The soft top is good however it should be noted that there is a gap between the 4 side windows and the soft top when the top is closed on the car. When I purchased this, it had new rubber installed around the hood, engine compartment, windshield, and door seals. New chrome rings around the headlights. New turn signal assembly. New rear red and amber lenses. New washer nozzle and seals. If you want to take this Thing to the next level, the interior is where attention might be needed. The seats are good, but the rear seat has a repaired spot. Floors seem good as well although it appears as though surface rust is visible on the undercarriage when put on a lift. When I saw this, I purchased floor boards figuring I would need to do the floors at some point. I haven't had to do it yet because they don't need to be replaced, and because I'm selling the car, the floor boards will go with the car to the new owner. There is no radio or speakers installed in the Thing. The dash is readily accessible and installation in these cars is a breeze. Front windshield glass is good. Windshield latches were also replaced with NOS latches that are factory correct OEM. Overall, this Thing is an absolute winner. If you live in the East coast, you will be hard pressed to find another Thing like this one. I have a receipt for over $2200 spent on recent servicing. Thanks for looking and please ask all questions before auction's end. |
