Description of 1970 Volkswagen Meyers Manx SR2 |
Meyers Manx was the original dune buggy. This is a rare SR (street roadster) version. The SR was featured on the cover of Car and Driver in 1970. It's a fun, easy to use and maintain car. EXTERIOR: It's fun to look at! Some of it's design ideas were taken from the 914 Porsche. If you squint it looks like a Lamborghini! The bug eyes, targa top and overall unique style is almost cartoonish. The aerodynamic shape make it look fast when sitting still. A bright orange color is very well suited for this attention getter. It was completely repainted within the last few years. We have pictures of it taken apart, prepped and primered. It features original vintage slotted mag wheels. Tires are excellent. INTERIOR: It is actually roomy, comfortable and sporty inside. Very comfortable sport seats that were recently reupholstered. I'm 6 foot and had to move the seat forward, a tall person can drive this. The entire cockpit was prepped and repainted. It still has it's original vintage Stewart Warner gauges. Recent brown carpet. There is storage compartments on each side and plenty of room behind the seats. It also has turn signal indicators on the dash, vintage leather steering wheel and a working e-brake. ENGINE COMPARTMENT: It has a great running 1600 CC Volkswagen motor. I personally drove this car. It cruises at 55 mph with no problem. Fires right up, doesn't skip a beat. The motor even looks clean and fresh. The carburetor looks new. The compartment is done in a gray speckled finish. It has an Empi exhaust with quad tips. TRUNK COMPARTMENT: The front compartment tilts forward. Inside has been sprayed in a gray and white spatter finish. There is a fuel tank and the battery. Volkswagen VIN number tag is riveted to the cowl. UNDERSIDE: The front end components look recent. Shocks look new. In back the suspension and shocks look fresh. The 4-speed trans looks clean. I personally took this car home. My daughter and I went out cruising. It was a blast, you can't help but to be happy in this car. It shifted smoothly, stopped and steered nice. Cruised along at 55 mph no problem. Actually this car has been fun since the first time I opened my email and there it was. I showed the pictures to others in the office and we all had laughs, some at my expense while they poked fun at me. Bottom line this car is FUN and affordable! I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my professional impression of the vehicle. Our salesmen are happy to assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video that explains the car's condition in detail.
