Amazing is a understatement. This VW is a piece of modern history. From 1971-79, the only VW Beetle convertibles manufactured were the Super Beetle models. Being a '71, this Super Beetle marks a historic first year of production, making for an even more unique vehicle.

The Super Beetle models came to the market in 1971 and were officially known as the VW 1302. As were all VW Beetle convertibles prior, they were manufactured by Karmann, which included special features that were either optional or not available on the standard VW sedans of the time.

Super Beetles measure about two inches longer than a standard Beetle, come equipped with improved front suspension components (including Macpherson strut and coil springs) for a smoother driving experience, and featured increased storage capacity. The 1971 model was adorned with a new windshield wiper lever on the right side of the steering column and features a slightly different hood design with 26 louvers. The convertibles were more expensive than the sedans, and were for most part handmade by the Karmann company - hence the Karmann badge on between the passenger door and front fender.
