Description of 1979 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic

This is a 1989 VW Bettle from La Paz Mexico.It's Manufactured in Puebla Mexico.I had the motor rebuilt at a VW Classic shop but the bug was killing ignitioin coils.I swapped the points to solid state and the car still would kill coils.I replaced the key ignition but didn't help.The generator started to fail and I replace the brushes but that did not fix the generator.I think it's time to convert to an alternator system and that might fix the coil issue.
I was driving on 15 north Friday the 27th when the car started to back fire.I thought the coil was going out, I pulled over and replaced the coil.The car kept backfiring and I pulled over again this time I can see oil was dripping.I checked the oil and it was super low, I added oil but the motor did not sound the same.I have video of the car from a week ago, the motor with the exhaust sounded like a Subura WRX but now iti sounds like a tank about to blow up.I took it to Cliff Brown Automotive were and they told me I need a complete rebuild.I spent 3500 on the last rebuilt and I'm not going to rebuild it.I'm leaving California.
*. I towed it from La Paz to San Diego (1200miles) with a Chevy Astro Van which is a 4.3l v6 and auto transmission.
The interior is super nice.The body has some dings but nothing major.Head lights, turn signals and reverse lights work.Car rolls easy, It's doesn't weight much.
