This Beetle is one of the most well-sorted example we've seen. oozing with So-Cal style and performance. This Beetle is the product of a fairly recent restoration. with much of the work performed by noted California VW shop BugFormance. With 15 million produced by 1975. Type 1 Beetles aren't anywhere near the pinnacle of rarity. but this example stands out from the pack in a number of ways. It is presented in correct-for-1961 Beryl Green over a tan interior with a tan pull-back ragtop. All of the exterior brightwork has been refinished. repolished or replaced. and this Beetle rides on chrome 5-spoke Empi wheels with Nitto NT450 Extreme Performance tires. Inside the cabin. this Beetle features a custom RetroSound audio system with MTX subwoofer. a wood rim Nardi-style steering wheel. upgraded Autometer Tach. VDO oil temp gauge and a Bambus under-dash tray. Powering this custom Beetle is a balanced BugFormance-built 1915cc long-block I4 engine. It has been upgraded with dual Weber 44 carbs. Compufire electronic ignition. CB performance serpentine belt upgrade and an outstanding ceramic-coated exhaust with Magnaflow mufflers. With all the performance upgrades accounted for. the air-cooled engine develops approximately 125hp. Further performance upgrades include KYB shocks. adjustable front bar. four-wheel disc brakes. Kennedy clutch and a close-ratio gearbox. making for an extremely well-behaved and drivable Type I Beetle.
