Description of 1962 Volvo Other Sport

This 544 has been in storage for the last 30 years. It was original purchased by a Ruby Olsen in 62" She had three 544's and this was her favorite. She sold the car in 1985 to the owner of the service shop that she had been taking the car to for service. The second owner freshened up the fading original paint with a new coat, he paint job is very nice and the sheet metal is perfectly straight. He also installed new tires then drove the car a half dozen times and stored it until last fall. This is a true original, nmolested low mile car with 59k on the odometer and no it has not turned over. I haveverified the miles given a oil change sticker from the 80's and given the history and condition of the car.Givenjudicousexamination of the car and with all honesty I have full confidence of the low original mileage. It would be impossible for a car ofthis condition and history to have close to 200k milesI will provide the new owner with the full backstory and all contact information from previous owners. I am the third owner.
The car retains the original 3 speed manual trans and the original b-18 engine
INTERIORThe Steeringwheel and horn ring is not cracked or showing any signs of giving up and is perfect. If you know these cars, ou'll find that pretty amazing. The floor vinyl is in very nice condition.Thewind lacing is actually completely perfect with no wear or tearing of any kind.the rubber "volvo" lower door jamb pieces are in incredible conditionThe headliner is perfect.Rear deck lid with original speaker in perfect condition.Rear seat is in perfect original conditionRear door panels are perfectFront door panels are near perfect with the drivers side showing minimal scuffs from opening the door and using the window crank, no shoe scuffs at all)All glass is original and in very nice conditionwing vent, op out and roll up windows all function perfectlythe door seals are in good condition showing minimal normal wear considering the age of the car.All doors, ood and trunk close nicely.
EXTERIORthe sheet metal is perfectly straight and original withabsolutely no repairs or damage, ith the exception of the only flaw in the car which you will see inthe pics, very small spot above the left rear fender, n easy fix for a professional.theundercarriage is completely dry and straight.all chrome is intact and in excellent condition. The only thing I would consider doing to the exterior is replacing the fender welting, very small section of a front piece of welting is worn.a roll of welting is about $40. A fun project for the new owner.
RUNNING GEAR AND MAINTENANCEI have done most of thework listed below, ome was done by the second owner recentlyNew plugs, ires, ap and rotor. The carbs have been rebuilt within the last yeara new brake master cylinder has just been installed and the brakes bled out nicely, rake shoes are in good condition.the car stops very wellemergency brake works as it shouldthe radiator has been completely rebuilttheengine cools well. Even with the original 2 blade fanall radiator and heater hoses are new.the tires were replaced new 30 years ago, o the tread is good but you can see some weather checking on the tread surface, ll she needs is some new shoes and this car is ready to drive across the US.
ENGINEthe engine is original, o all of the original felt and cork seals are still in place and if you're a Volvo guy you'll know that a littleweeping from the felt rear main seal is to be expected.I decided not to change any of the seals to respect theoriginal aspect of the car.the engine does not weepenough to be of any concern. It does not smokeStarts well with alittle pull of the choke.
Theundercarriage iscompletely dryyou will see pics of the underneath of the back trunk area, common rust spot. It is also totally dry there.
This car is in incredible original low milecondition.the last 3 digits of the chassis number are written in permanent crayon marker of some kind..My hunch is that these numbers were writtenon the firewall by the last fellow to touch the carin the assembly line so that the car could easily be checked off as it rolled by..just my guess... and fun none the less... if any of you Volvo guys out there could confirm my guess on this I would appreciate it..I have great conflict about selling this car, iven that its pretty much the find of a lifetime. But I've got another car I can't part with and one of them has to go...best of luck to you.. and If you'd like to chat about the car just send me your number and I'll give you a ring.More pictures are available upon request.
