1966 Volvo 122S Coupe Portland car from new Bone stock restoration Show quality example Up for bids is this beautiful 122 Coupe. Sold new at Jim Fisher Volvo here in Portland, he car remained with its original owner for 49 years, ventually being sold to an acquaintance last autumn. He bought it for a flip and soon listed it on Craigslist, bought the car from him in October of 2014 and just completed a restoration that took exactly one year, lmost to the day. The car was repainted in its original color of Dark Blue and is simply stunning. This was a glass out, rim off job so you won't be finding any overspray or tape lines anywhere. The prep and application were first rate, here's no sags, uns, isheye or other imperfections, t was a very high quality job. Code 90 Dark Blue is a rare color to find on an Amazon and was only available from 1965-1966. Straight and clean grill assembly. New Volvo lettering in gold, s original. Headlights are the original GE units from new. Tail lights and reflectors are in great shape. Both bumpers have been rechromed. The vintage Oregon plate is the one issued to the car in November of '65, t will be included with the sale. The glass is all original except for the windshield. It shows some faint wiper rash that's not very noticeable, nd no chips or stars. All of the window and drip-rail trim was removed, traightened and polished. Front and rear glass received new OEM Volvo window seals that were professionally installed. The side windows have all new channel felts and sweeps. The wing windows and pop-out rear side window seals are original and still in good shape. All 6 pieces of belt line trim were professionally restored, ny dings were removed and then polished to a high luster. Although carefully restored, here are a couple of flaws I'd like to point out. In the 1st photo below you can see a small tweak on the side of the windshield trim, nd another one close by on the drip-rail trim. In the 2nd photo you can see that the trunk handle assembly shows the typical light pitting that's commonly found on these. The remainder of the car's trim is excellent with no pitting or problems. The trunk carries the original spare, ack and tool kit. A correct replacement rubber mat has been fitted as well as a rare Volvo accesory storage basket. The car comes with a nice assortment of original books and manuals. The 4th photo below shows the tool roll, sets of original keys, ervice records, wner's manual and folder, n original Volvo spare fuse kit and the car's original title from 1965, eturned from the DMV for "souvenir purposes only' when the car was sold last year. Other paperwork includes the car's original warranty booklet, n accessories brochure (rare), adio wiring schematic, ealer directory and the aforementioned title. The warranty booklet shows that the car was bought new on November 2nd 1965 by Richard Johnson. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Johnson and kept in contact with him as the restoration progressed. The 3rd photo below shows him with his old friend after it was restored. He indicated to me that he'd be happy to share his contact info with the new owner if desired. The 4th photo was taken after the paintwork was completed. As you can see, t was pretty well gutted before painting. The interior has been completely redone with new seat upholstery, oor cards, ront mat, ick panels, ashpad, indlacing and weatherstripping. All of the car's upholstery (and a hundred other items) were sourced through VP Autoparts, fantastic resource for vintage Volvo parts. Based in Sweden, hey have a US distribution warehouse and stock nearly everything for these old Volvos, any of them OEM direct from Volvo. Sill plates are original and free of dents or dings. Seatbelts are original, till looking good after 50 years. The steering wheel has no cracks or splits, he chromed horn ring is in great shape. All switchgear operates correctly. The heater and fan are very effective and will singe your socks in typical Swedish style. All gauges are working, ncluding the unique ribbon speedometer. The faceplate was carefully restored and refinished in the correct wrinkle gray. The odometer reading of 122K miles is marked on the new title as actual. The Bendix radio makes sound powering on or off but unfortunately is not delivering reception. Underdash area is clean and retains its original firewall insulation. The headliner is original and was in good shape so I left it alone. A classic Saint Christopher medal is keeping watch. The B18 motor runs smoothly and strongly with no smoke and no leaks, his is a nice driving Amazon. It handles great on the road with nice tight steering and a good suspension. Gear changes are smooth and sure, he car runs and drives just as good as it looks. Lots of nice little details throughout the engine bay. The undercarriage is completely rust free; the floorpans, ockers and pinchwelds are all original and just as nice as you'd want to find them, standout example of Volvo's venerable Amazon series.
