Description of 1979 Volvo 240 |
This sinister Volvo 242 DL has been helping me disturb the peace for about seven years. I’m the second owner, and it was a well cared for, low mileage original car, when I acquired it. If it’s not obvious enough, this Volvo is far from stock. The transformation took a few patient years, but it was worth the wait. The past few years have been a blast, enjoying this car! In a sentence, it’s a Group-A inspired Volvo 242 with some Hot Rod flavor. All the modifications were carefully selected and fully documented, and supported by the RWD Volvo Turbo Community. A sensory overload this car is, indeed, with the sounds, sight, feel & smell….I haven’t yet dared taste it. But the other senses are enough to get you hooked! This car’s soundtrack is music to my ears….though your neighbors may disagree. It’s powered by a custom built Twin-Cam Turbo Redblock engine...for those that know, it’s a B230FT short block with piston oil squirters, a B234F 16v Head, loaded with Volvo Penta PZ camshafts, and a Mitsubishi TD04HL-16T turbocharger on a Long Tube Even Runner Stainless-Steel Exhaust Manifold. Attention to detail has not been overlooked, as everything functions, fits and looks beautiful. Suspension is all custom, with contributions from Kaplhenke Racing for custom coilover & quick steering components, as well as PSI, trackside at Sonoma Raceway for a set of custom valved Bilstein HD shocks & struts. Ride quality, steering & handling are beautiful. It’ll stop in a hurry, as well, thanks to 13” rotors on all four corners and Brembo 6-Piston/4-Piston calipers from a Porsche Cayenne….you’d put your nose into the windshield, if it weren’t for the recent SFI legal 4-Point racing harnesses mounted to a professionally TIG welded roll bar...the roll bar alone is pure artwork. There is no radio, no HVAC, or other nonsense. This is a Track Ready Car on street tires. Guaranteed to make you smile, and scare your significant other. You’ll have a blast at your next track day or be the talk of your local Cars & Coffee event. In the reliability department, I’ve made countless road trips in this, as far as Summit County Colorado, Lake Tahoe, Tucson Arizona, and Los Angeles. Pack some earbuds, but I promise you’d rather listen to this motor than anything on your digital media device. Please ask any questions The official specs, for those that care or know... Exterior
