Description of 1983 Volvo 240 244 Turbo GLT

Selling this baby because our youngest is in college now. You won’t find many of these. 1983 Volvo 244 Turbo GLT. In anticipation of the upcoming 200k milestone I've already mounted the second high mileage OEM badge on the grille.Vehicle starts right up on first key turn! Body is amazingly clean as it’s a Colorado car where we don't use salt on the road and the climate is dry.

Highlights:

Starts right up and warm up idle works great. Has a high amount of energy and acceleration. When turbo kicks in—and it does kick in as it should—you go. Drove it over the mountains last year and it zipped right up and over Vail Pass (10,662’). Steers well, drives tightly and corners very well. It has the upgraded suspension being a GLT. Alignment very good.

Has all the GLT features including Virgo 15 inch rims, upgraded thickness sway bars and stabilizers, sunroof, black beltline exterior trim, black bumper gap molding, black rigid headliner, fold down center armrest with pull out cup holders, power windows, mirrors and locks (all work), etc.

Flat hood conversion done last year. Had local bodyshop paint the flat hood matte black to match the trim package. Retro front from the 77-78 240’s looks incredibly sharp on this car. Also the retro single round headlights with the appropriate OEM bezels and the OEM flat hood grille—its an amazing transformation as you can see. The amber turn signal assemblies are a nice upgrade look as well.--they are Cibie, which is OEM.(Note, if you want to put the vehicle back to the original coffin hood and quad rectangle headlights and grille set up, I still have those parts and I will gladly trade. As a flat hood front end set up, however, it’s worth much more, more appealing, and the look is outstanding. All OEM Volvo of course). The brass badges are Volvo made and have a special mounting system attached to them so as not to affect the grille--they can be taken off from the back. You can’t just pull them off either as you can the ones that are merely two-sided tape affixed. OEM GLT emblem is attached to grille as well, without grille damage.

Nokian eNYTRE tiresare perfectly suited to these Virgo rims. Size is 195/65 R15, all match because they were purchased at the same time. They have 80% or more life remaining.Picture is of the tires on rims when headed to get them balanced.Spare is also on a Virgo rim and has at least 75% tread. Center caps on Virgo wheels are all present and look very good.

Sunroof works excellently and does not leak. Cranks open and shut just like it’s supposed to. Air deflector moves up into place as it should. Chrome crank sits back down in the recessed place as it should. Vehicle has an OEM Volvo AM/FM working stereo. It is a Volvo CR-2170. Not sure if the cassette portion is working--honestly never tried it. Antenna is power but it is stuck in the up position, though it still "tries" to go up and down when starting or shutting off car. Could be freed up, I suppose.

Seats have no tears in them. They are the blue ribbed cloth and show some fading, but no stains or tears. Their structure is sound, they are not collapsing or deformed, like some of the old 240 seats became.

Carpet sets (front and back) are both very clean. Seats were removed this past Fall and carpet removed and shampooed, dried and reinstalled. See final two pictures. Floor was clean underneath. To protect carpet the vehicle has had Volvo lippedfloor trays. No cracks in them.

Black headliner is not ripped, snagged or stained. It does not sag since it's the GLT rigid design. Ceiling truly looks amazing. Everything on it is black including the grip handles and the sunroof underside. Sunvisors on both sides are near perfect and show no visible signs of wear.

Recently replaced tail lights. They are OEM Cibie and look great. Had been "New Old Stock" I came across.

Instrument cluster and gauges all work except for the small clock. Will send a clock along with the extra parts.

Engine bay is clean as seen in pictures.

Brakes are solid and work very well.

Interstate battery less than a year old.

New windshield was installed last fall so is clear, clean and has no chips or cracks.

Clutch has a lot of life. I believe it was replaced around 150k.

Clean floorboards and bottom. There are NO rust-throughs...the underside exterior is clean. I have a number of pictures I could send you if you'd like--I posted one to indicate what the entire bottom looks like. The limit is 24 on this listing and I ran out fast. The pictures also reveal how the car has extremely clean rocker panels, andthe door jambs and door skin seams are essentially eat-off-of clean. Hood seams, and trunk seams have no corrosion either.

Original tool kit and original crank jack—which are rare these days. Trunk carpet set whole and clean. Trunk spare tire and storage cavities are fairly clean as well.

Non-smoking car. I mean that in every way. Not just no blue smoke out the pipe, but never been owned by a smoker.

Two owner car...and the previous owner was a true Volvo enthusiast. We’re a Volvo family too.

Cons or Considerations:

Car isn't perfect, but it's amazing. Here's some details you would need to know before committing. Car has some light corrosion spots—though very few. This includes some small places around right front bottom of windshield. One little area on rear driver side. Hood hinge area has some surface corrosion as well. There are a few additional chips or smaller specks here and there, for example two chips on the rear edge of the drivers side front fender. There are absolutely no rust-throughs anywhere, only very light surface. The trunk has some small "upward" dings, as someone closed the trunk with something sitting a little high.

Paint: White painted areas are very good, without any peeling. The black sunblock on top of doors is quite faded and has some cracking of sorts. It would not be an involved job to repaint. Paint on driver’s front door and passenger front fender was redone in the past and if you look closely you can tell. It probably would help to be buffed out. There is a small dent on driver door window frame…see picture. The underside of the hood is brown. It still has the original sticker.

When warm and driving, the RPM’s dip very low when clutch is pushed in while coming to a stop sign, for example. And obviously itcan beannoying when it sometimes stalls—a friend said it was likely a vacuum tube leak. I didn’t get to it and the school bill is due.

Air conditioning does not work and some of thehose end connectors, etc, are missing. I am including a brand new OEM compressor however for your someday project.

Heater fan motor makes some noise when it’s really cold out. Each position on the blower works however, and the fan is very strong. When it’s warmer than say 30 or 40 it doesn’t squeak. And no matter the temperature outside, the squeak does go away once the car is warmed up.

Power mirrors work in two directions only, not all four directions. They can be easily hand moved however. The resolution may just involve spraying electronic lube into the switches to correct.

Like many older 240's the push button overdrive button doesn’t work all the time. It’s intermittent--it could be the relay or the switch.

Dash has cracks in it, therefore the nice blue dash mat. Though the dash has cracks it is not flaking off--it is not disintegrating either. I can send a picture if you're curious.

Extra parts included:

New air conditioning compressor.

Replacement seat belt retractor plastic covers for rear hat shelf—one isn’t looking good.

Small 53mm dash clock.

Two plastic seat adjustment wheels provided, one needed to restore the ability to adjust the back vertical of the driver’s seat currently.

This vehicle could be show-room if some attention were given to little details and perhaps a fresh coat of paint.

There are a number of transportation companies I’ve heard come through here headed to all places in the U.S.
