Description of 1977 Volvo 240 DL

Have a 1977 Volvo 245 Wagon automatic with a B21 engine. California car it’s entire life with the original blue plates that are currently registered as non operational and is current since it’s being stored. Could be a very Collectible car if done right. Have started to restore the car but unfortunately not able to complete due to limited time and other projects. I need more space. I have removed the front windshield trim along with the side trim and roof rack. All pieces are present. My intention was to completely repair the common small rust spots as shown and have repainted. Have started the process you are able to see. The car was running fine prior to having the plugs and wires replaced along with the cap and rotor. But after the work car would not start so I had a mechanic looked at the issue and he determined it was the distributor so I had ordered a reman exact replacement and he installed it but since then I have not been able to mess with the vehicle due to my space situation and homeowners rules not allowing me to perform repairs. The car starts but will most likely will need to be properly timed to the new distributor since it’s running rough. I figured at that point I would just order a new timing belt and water pump from a online Volvo specialist parts warehouse and then have the mechanic come back and install and time the vehicle properly a couple of months ago. So all being said car is just sitting in my garage taking up space. This is a great project for someone that wants a collectible Volvo and has the time to complete. All parts that have been removed are present and ready to be reinstalled.
I have purchased many items to go along with the restore as this was to be my weekend driver a car to have fun with. Parts alone are well enough to consider this car due to cost.
Items I have purchased are as follows but have not been installed yet.-Complete set front and rear new Volvo mud flaps.-New full round headlights that have removable halogen bulbs that you can upgrade to a even brighter bulb if wanted.-Complete used taillights since the old ones have many cracks and damage currently.(Have not installed yet)-I also purchased well nuts to be used to reinstall the roof rack after painting.-A new windshield washer pump motor-A new speedometer cable-I have also purchased a Bosch fuel pump-A used original Volvo tachometer that is an exact fit for the Volvo. This model 245 did not come with a tach I purchased a used one separately and is ready to be installed.-The spark plug wires are new from a Volvo specialist warehouse but the coil wire will need to be replaced due to the mechanic had shorted the new when diagnosing the car. I have another set of wires I bought from NAPA auto parts that are blue and the coil wire is currently being used as the replacement.-Proper Bosch spark plugs have been gapped and installed.-I have several cans (10) of gray primer spray paint to go along with the car and Bondo along with sandpaper for repair of the minor rust that was currently being repaired as shown.-Will provide a battery charger to go along with the car to keep it charged during storage.-New Oil and filter included.-Two used mechanics manuals along with original owners manual.
The things that I have noticed that will need to be addressed are as follows along with some typical answers to some of the cars features.
-A new muffler will need to be purchased. I was planning to just upgrade the entire exhaust since there inexpensive.-A/C does not work but there is a click sound when the a/c switch is turned on. I assume the compressor is clicking on but have not looked further into it so I’m uncertain.-The dash shows cracking under cover and the front drivers seats are slightly worn under the seat covers (my intention was to re cover entire seats and door panels).-There is an existing am/fm cassette player not original. Would need to upgrade.-Headliner is in good to great condition and is present.-Clock works.-All tail lights blinkers and exterior bulbs are currently working.-Has the original red gas cap.-Has the original car jack.-Has complete set of center hubcaps.-Windshield has a small chip crack mid cecenter-Tires will most likely need to be replaced due to age. (They have been holding air well for the last 9 months). There’s a lot of tread left.
Keep in mind there will be some other items that will most likely need to be repaired or replaced but I have already bought the majority to get the car road ready and it’s ready to be put together again with little effort to get it going and drive and fix up at the same time for the right person who has the time and wants a classic Volvo wagon. Parts are very inexpensive and a lot are readily available through other sources. The value of this car is going up each year and with some effort this will be a great value. My lose is your gain. This also would make a great parts car if needed. I realize I could make a lot more parting out the car but it is a complete car as of now and I don’t really have the time now. Being sold as is where is.
