Description of 1990 Volvo 240 |
For sale, a vintage 1990 Volvo 240 sedan in top working order! The body is in great shape, as is the the interior. The mechanical systems have recently been extensively restored. (See full description of restoration below.) It drives great, without any squeaks or squeals. (For you Auslander fans, this vintage auto was originally listed by Auslander as a 1990, fully restored classic with 32,000 original miles.) Their listing read, “…Thousands of dollars in parts and labor were just invested in this vehicle, so make no mistake, no expense was spared here.... My goal is to take all the nonsense out of owning one of these classics, so we painstakingly weed through every 240 we restore to ensure it’s as close to perfect as possible. I am Auslander Volvo Restorations, and this is your chance to own one of my vehicles…. I’d like to introduce you to the one-owner 32,000-mile 1990 VOLVO 240 DL from California I lovingly refer to as “Aiken”.... SERVICE PERFORMED: Four new Michelin tires, new brake booster, new brake master cylinder, new brake rotors, new brake pads, new bearings, new seals, new rear axle seals, new rear axle bearings, rear axle gear oil changed, new transmission fluid/filter/gasket, new AW shift solenoid bypass, new a/c compressor, new a/c lines, new a/c evaporator, new a/c cooling fan, new shocks, new struts, new strut bump stops and boots, new engine mounts, new transmission mount, new driveline bearing and mount, new suspension bushings front & rear, new stabilizer end links, new tie rods, new power steering pump, new power steering rack, new ball joints, new timing belt/tensioner/seals, new belts, new water pump/thermostat, new valve cover gasket, new head gasket, rebuilt head, oil change, new fuel filter & seals, new fuel pressure regulator, fuel injector seals, new flame trap and lines, new breather box & hoses, new oil cap seal & dipstick tube o-ring, new preheater hose, new radiator, new hoses, new distributor cap/rotor, new spark plugs, new air filter, new mass airflow sensor, new idle air control valve, new gas/oxygen sensor, new Bluetooth-enabled AM/FM radio, new AGM battery” For the complete description, see Auslander's original eBay ad (https://www.ebay.com/itm/1990-Volvo-240-DL-/253891424604?nordt=true&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m43663.l10137). Unfortunately, very little of this description was true. It doesn’t have "32,000 original miles." The dealer who sold the car to Auslander earlier in 2018 disclosed in his eBay ad that the odometer was disconnected, and the car probably had more than 50,000 miles on it. Auslander failed to mention that the odometer had been disconnected, or that he reconnected the odometer prior to selling it to us. Our mechanic (a Certified Volvo mechanic with 20 years of experience and 50+ five-star yelp reviews) estimates that, from the wear and tear on the parts he had to replace, the car probably has 80,000 to 100,000 miles on it. But with the work that our mechanic has put into it, the car now runs very well. We’ve put an additional $6,500 into the car to get it into the shape we expected when we purchased it from Auslander. We’re putting it back on the market, just so we can get our money out of it. The following things have been done to the car.•Replaced power steering pump and pressure hoses•Replaced A/C compressor mounting bushings•Replaced trailing arm and control arm bushings•Replaced transmission mount, tail shaft bushings, and seal•Replaced leaking transmission lines•Replaced rear muffler and connector pipe•Replaced engine mounts•Replaced brake master cylinder•Replaced front and rear brake pads and rotors•Replaced front brake calipers, brake hoses, and brake junction valve•Replaced battery•Replaced with 4 new Michelin tires. Note: The original dashboard has cracks in it, and has been covered with a black vinyl dashboard shell that hides the original dashboard very well. I'm happy to provide all of the provenance information and documentation of repairs that we've made. If you have any questions or want more information about the car, please contact me 408-313-2672. |
