Description of 1968 Volvo 122 |
1968 Volvo 122s Estate Wagon (Amazon) Great classic proportions - tiny in comparison to modern behemoths. This is an honest car that does not inspire too much Pagodeneitelkeit in the driver - however, people will want to talk to you about it - but they’ll always be smiling and telling you about how they or their auntie had one, or about how they rode in one as a child. I am the third owner. The first owner was a hard-edge abstract painter who owned the car from 1968 until his passing in 2009. The proprietor of the excellent Volvo shop, where the painter had the wagon serviced, bought it from his estate upon his passing. He owned it and improved upon it until I bought it in April of 2017. Always been a New Mexico car aside from a couple of months in Los Angeles when new. Excellent patina, would be a shame to loose it's history to over-restoration. It has lots of little dents and scratches and scrapes, so there’s no need to worry about it in parking lots:) Poor respray on the front and driver door. I discovered there must have been a drivers door dent at some point, as I removed the door card to fix the window crank. She’s a great driver; a fun, good handling car with tight steering. 5.5 inch deep steel wheels, which are a nice subtle upgrade. I put on Goodyear Eagle A/S Tires. They have less than 3000 miles on them now. The second owner replaced the stock B18 with a B20 motor and bored it over 0.20.Does not smoke; leaks a little oil.Low maintenance dual SU Carburetors. Glass pack muffler - not everyone’s cup of tea but it actually make the car 33.3% more fun to drive - fact. Dual circuit brakes. Good shocks. Headliner in good shape. M40 4-speed transmission shifts fine. Original tool kit and jack. Many Records. Brake booster delete. Could use new floor coverings and dash pad - maybe - as long as you still drive it. Some upholstery tears. Upholstery, floor coverings and dash pad can all be bought new should you desire to go that route. Original glass. Rock chip in windshield - repaired. All the electrics work - except wiper fluid jet - probably needs new motor. (Even the hazards work.) Please be sensitive to the fact that she is a 50+ year old, lovingly well-used car that hopes to be driven and never fully restored. There are tons of used parts for these old Volvo (and many new parts still produced.) Probably 149000 miles (five-place Odometer reads ~49000) When I have time next week, I will post a driving video. |
