Description of 1950 Willys Jeepster

1950 Willys Jeepster

The Jeepster is an automobile originally produced by Willys-Overland Motors from 1948 to 1950. It was developed in hopes of filling a gap in the company's product line, crossing over from their "utilitarian" SUVs and trucks to the passenger automobile market. The basic model included numerous deluxe features and interior fittings in addition to a high level of standard equipment that cost extra on other automobiles. A total of almost 20,000 were manufactured.

For consignment a Barn Find restoration project awaiting its journey back to its original glory. This is the convertible version of the Jeepster meaning it has front buckets, and a rear bench, and a convertible top. Looking at the lines of this early truck turned car, one can see the original Jeep design coming through, but still maintaining the family sedan look.

Exterior
Plenty of surface rust, paint chipping from previous coatings, scratches, and some invasive rust, the exterior panels need TLC. The car is a two-tone version with red covering most of the vehicle, and a band of black making its way around the passenger compartment. The grille V horizontal trimmings are missing, and extra turn signals have been added hanging from the front fenders. A rear taillight modification has moved from the posted taillight to an inserted light. Convertible top is in poor condition. Some invasive rust is noted on the passenger rear quarter panel.

Interior
A complete and thorough restoration will need to be performed as seats are dry rotted, and coverings are coming off them. The correct seating framing has been installed, with a larger front drivers' double seat, and the passenger's bucket. A bench graces the rear. Floor is rusted through in several areas, and original dash has lost its luster, but does have the spun patterned aluminum gauge cluster pattern.

Drivetrain
A Willys "Go Devil" L Head 134 with a Carter 1-barrel carburetor and a warner 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive is attached to the back. Currently this engine does not run or have a battery.

Undercarriage
Plenty of surface rust virtually on every surface underneath. It appears on the floorpans there are areas of invasive rust through, as well as the rockers have rusted through. A new fuel tank has been put on.

A project car that can have great styling with the V chromed front grille, making it look less "Jeep-like" and more car like. It needs a lot of TLC or could just be used for parts to complete another restoration. Plenty of work here but in the end, a restored example brings good money.
