Description of 1987 BMW M6 M6

1987 BMW M6- The M6 was critically acclaimed throughout its lifespan for its elegant. aggressive "shark-nose" styling. its luxury equipment. and its performance. The E24 M6 was fitted with the S38B35 engine. producing 256 bhp and 243 lbf·ft of torque. A top speed of 158 mph makes the M6 the second fastest BMW ever built next to the M1. This is due to all other BMW models being electronically restricted to 155 mph. However. Rug Cunningham BMW ran a bone stock 1987 BMW M6 in the La Carrera Classic Race in Mexico in 1989. and reportedly recorded a top speed of 176 mph indicated. An M6 can be distinguished from other E24 models by a larger front air dam. a rear spoiler. BBS wheels. color matching side view mirrors. M badges on the grille and back. and slightly larger front brakes. Here is a period video detailing the capabilities of these amazing cars: La Carrera Classic This particular M6 comes was delivered to its original owner on 27 April. 1987 in St. Petersburg Florida. It has since lived only in North Carolina. South Carolina and Georgia. As a result. there is no rust on this car whatsoever. This car comes with a comprehensive file detailing a great deal of its history. It also comes with a clear title. The current owner car of this M6 bought it on 5 August. 2011 with a mind toward using it as a third car and having it around as a hobby. As often happens. family and profession have not given him the time to enjoy this car as he had originally had hoped. save for the occasional Sunday drive. He brought his M6 to Speedwell for us to look the car over to make sure it is as viable as when he purchased it. then have us make it available on Ebay to someone who would have the time to further improve and use it. We performed a “Road-readiness” Inspection on the car and found little that had to be done to ensure the car’s reliability. The engine’s compression is excellent. It averages 190lbs per cylinder with less than 10% variation between the lowest and highest. We changed the oil in the gearbox. changed the engine oil and filter. then drained and refilled the differential. In addition. we flushed the brake and clutch hydraulic systems. which we recommend doing every two years. The car is still equipped with the original Michelin TRX wheel and tire package. They roll true and smooth. but the tread has gotten to the point where the tires need to be replaced. They are available through Coker tire in Chattanooga. Driving impression- The engine comes instantly to life with a turn of the key. whether cold or warm. and settles immediately down to a cadenced idle. The clutch works exactly as you would expect. Push down the pedal. engage front gear and the car pulls smoothly away without the slightest protest. All five gears (and reverse) engage easily and make no strange noises. whether accelerating gently or with verve. The steering is quick yet stable. giving the driver just the right blend of ease for repeated curves. yet feel for the road. The handling is flat and precise. Under braking. the four wheel discs haul the car down from speed smoothly and smartly. The engine does not smoke or make any unusual sounds and runs quite well. Exterior- The Cinnabar Red paint presents without disappointment and gleams well with very few flaws. The car’s forward surfaces have been sympathetically re-sprayed in the past. as documented in the receipts. but it is mostly original and has never undergone a total re-spray. All the fenders and doors bear the factory serialized ID stickers. Interior- The Lotus White seats. front and rear. are in excellent condition. especially for their age. The headliner is very nice as is the carpet. The leather dashboard is also very presentable with the only real issue being at the base of the windshield. The interior door panels are nice but the driver’s door pull has been shoddily repaired in the past and needs attention (see pictures) Additional pictures- Ebay only lets me add 24 pictures to the auction so please click on this link to see quite a lot more. including some detailed pictures of the car’s underside: BMW M6. a closer look Some high points of the service records provided with the car: The self-leveling rear shocks (problematic) were replaced with a Kormann Bilstein shock and sport spring set up 8/20/96 at 71. 01 miles The oil has been changed regularly throughout the car’s life. The clutch was replaced 8/28/02 at 117. 80 miles. The alternator was replaced 11/14/02 at 119. 72 miles. The air conditioning does not work (The fan works. the air is not cold). The “snowflake” button is stuck and may be the issue. There are receipts for comprehensive A/C repair in the car’s records. As often happens with BMWs of this era. the odometer stopped working around 1/31/07 as the service invoices start showing close to the same mileage from that point out. Up to that point the records show consistent use with logical progression of miles. Due to the number of service receipts tapering off from that point. we believe the car to have been used on a limited basis since then. One of the fog lights got cracked. nbsp;subsequently they were both removed but the owner has not replaced them yet. At any rate. the car is very responsive. in very good condition and would be a joy for any enthusiast to own. Please email with any questions or additional picture requests.
