Description of 1973 Chevrolet Corvette

This is probably the only TRIPLE WHITE 73 Corvette (white paint. top and interior) in existence. (Prior to 1973. the most recent Corvette that offered a white interior was the 1967. The next regular production Corvette that offered a white interior wasn't until 1976). * Stunning in LOOKS (see photos & links above & below)* Stunning in how it SOUNDS (ya just gotta hear it. click below) * And it's stunning in how it DRIVES. including with the updated 4-spd tranny (much lowered RPMs) This '73 is also just about exactly the way it came off of the assembly line back in January of 1973. For all practical purposes this car appears as an all-stock. OEM Stingray. and it runs and looks GREAT. It has basically had a frame-on restoration about 6 -7 years ago. and while it's been a work in progress. it does have some restoration items newer than that. It's not a perfect show car. as I do drive it often. it has a couple of paint chips and a very small hair line crack or 2. but still it is DAMN NICE! I couldn't imagine it just sitting in a garage and looking at it. When it's out. it draws a crowd wherever it goes. people flock around it at gas stations and other stops - even has people photographing / taking videos of it while driving down the freeway. This is without a doubt one of the BEST-LOOKING. GREAT SOUNDING Corvettes around anywhere. And with it's beefy sound and great classical looks. this Corvette is truly a "man's Corvette". NOTE: Bidders with less than 5 feedbacks must contact me PRIOR TO MAKING A BID. Any violations of this will result in me deleting that bid(s). If you're still interested in knowing more about this car. then please read on. Back to the sound. the reason for this special sound is the type of side exhaust PIPE. Obviously this 73 has the correct factory OEM chrome side exhaust covers. These are recently new. and shine shine shine. there are no pit marks. no flaking paint in the ribbed area. they are simply nice nice nice. But what makes the sound of this car special and unique is that the side exhaust pipes that were made for the C3 were NOT UTILIZED for this car. Instead I installed the C2 exhaust pipes (mid-year Corvettes from 63-67). Many of you who know and love Corvettes may have perhaps noticed that the older 63-67 Corvettes with side exhaust sounded different. sounded better. than the newer C3 pipes. The C2 pipes had a throatier. meaner sound than the milder-sounding C3 pipes. That's because the C2 (mid-series) pipes are constructed with a single pipe on each side that are "chambered" - giving it that very unique sound that only those mid-series Corvettes had. It's a much meaner. throatier rumble. as opposed to the side pipes that GM put on the C3's (68 to 82). The C3's had a sort of a dual pipe. and it was NOT "chambered". And while they sound good on their own. they are no match to the sound of the C2 pipes (like the ones installed on this car). The C2 pipes definitely have a better sound. and this 73 has that same sound. It sounds like a virile beast. just like the sound from a 66 or 67 Corvette big block. Also notice that this 73 also has the special rear valance panel that fills the exhaust holes in the back under the rear bumpers - giving it a nice clean. finished look back there. ____________________________________________________________________ This car is mostly all original but with a couple of exceptions of which. in my opinion. were absolutely necessary upgrades (more on this a little later in this description). When new. it was a fairly well-optioned car including A/C. PS. PB. automatic. AM/FM stereo. tilt & telescopic steering wheel; deluxe interior (the "deluxe interior" option included leather seats. a thicker "cut pile" carpet. wood grain trim on the shifter console. and wood grain trim and carpet on the door panels). The leather seat covers are new. as are both door trim panels. The black dash pieces (one left. one right including the map pocket. and the upper crash pad) have been freshly dyed black. The tilt steering column has been rebuilt. and also has fresh paint (in the correct black color) - with no dings or scratches. All of the interior looks GREAT! This white interior just pops when you see it! When it was born. it was a white car with a black top and black interior. I changed it to the triple white configuration. Certainly there may be some other white 73's with a white top. but since the white interior was not available from 1968 thru 1975. I think this is the only triple white 73 out there. This car's white seats covers. door panels. quarter trim panels. windshield garnish trim panels and sun visors are the 76 and 77 Corvette white interior color code (color code "76 white"). While the white interior color is true to 76 and 77 Corvettes. the stitching pattern on this car's leather seats is indeed true to a '73. These custom made leather seat covers are EXACTLY what they would have looked like from GM's production line back in 73. Another rare option this car has is the shoulder restraint seat belts. Only 788 cars had this option. You may notice in the photos that I usually do not have or keep the lap belt clipped / fastened to the upper shoulder harness connection. as I don't want the metal from those two pieces rubbing a hole in the seats. therefore is why you see them disconnected in some of the photos. But those shoulder belts are NOS items from GM. They are the original OEM parts. of which just these 2 shoulder belts cost over $600 for the pair. I believe that about the only options this car didn't have are power windows. rear window defroster and the auxiliary hardtop. ___________________________________________________________________________ HERE'S ANOTHER VERY NICE UPGRADE !! One of the nicest upgrades this car has is that I changed the original transmission (a Turbo 400 - which is a 3 speed). to a 200R4 transmission from the late 80's - early 90's GM cars. This 200R4 is a DIRECT swap for the original Turbo 400. except the 200R4 is a 4 speed automatic. which greatly reduces RPM's at highway speed. reduces noise. increases fuel mileage. and generally makes it a much better driver. The 200R4 was completely rebuilt by a master transmission technician before installing it in this car. The shifter and console and locking cable are all still there and original. So other than counting the extra shift into 4th gear. and if you didn't know it. you'd never know this wasn't stock. It looks and operates exactly like it should. BTW - I still have the original turbo 400 that came out of it. it worked great when I took it out. just wanted the 4-speed automatic upgrade. The original (numbers matching) turbo 400 transmission goes with the car. _________________________________________________- RECEIPTS. RECEIPTS. RECEIPTS The car has hundreds of items that have been replaced (I have 2 files on this car. each of them are 3" thick with paid parts invoices). and most of those items have been replaced with NOS Chevrolet parts. like the license plate frame. the rear Corvette letters. and so many more. It has the original wiper arms with the fluid squirter lines that are particular to that year (not the subsequent "new" design that came out in 74 and later cars). This car still looks stock with the sum of all its parts. The engine compartment looks completely stock too (except for the 350 decal on the air cleaner lid). Notice that it also has the OEM air pump and air-injector tubes going into the exhaust manifolds just like when new (most owners back in the day removed these pieces for "better performance". however this is another reason this car is a rare one. as it still retains most of the original items. More of what is 'stock" with this car. The engine. it's the original numbers-matching 350 V-8 engine to the car. the stamped numbers on the front pad of the right side of the block match the VIN (serial) numbers. The engine is mostly all original except it has a upgraded camshaft which is another reason giving it that mean. choppy sound (click on the above link below to hear it running). It also has a high-performance Holley carb instead of the original Rochester quadra-jet (but I do have an original Q-jet for a 73 350 auto trans option that will go with the car). It also has a Mallory pointless ignition and distributor. but as with some of the other modifications on this car. this can be easily removed and the original distributor with points. condenser and rotor cap can be installed (I have an OEM distributor that will go with the car). It has the original dual-snorkle air cleaner. round cowl induction seal and ring at the top. and the original actuator and flapper door for the cowl induction. It also has a NOS plastic screen at the rear of the hood where the fresh air enters that chamber - and with the original-style acorn nuts holding it in place. Not an option on 73's. but this car does have the OEM Chevrolet side exhaust covers and pipes (as mentioned above). _________________________________________________________- All-original OEM air-conditioning system The A/C system is new. and is the OEM type. including the VIR (Valve In Receiver) assembly. and it's charged with R12 - just like it came new - and it blows c-o-l-d! It has an original A6 compressor just like the original OEM one. and even the green foil "Frigidaire" sticker is an exact replica. Original radiator. fan shroud. fan shroud extension. and coolant poison sticker on top (sticker is an exact replica). An excellent replica of the "Harrison" air conditioning sticker is on the evaporator box. The entire A/C system has been replaced and works like a charm. new compressor. new high and low hoses. new condenser. new evaporator and new VIR (Valve In Receiver) drier/accumulator valve just like it came with from the production line back in Jan 73. It has the original spare wheel & tire in its tire carrier. all original. and includes the original jack and handle. All wheels are original. as are the center caps. but the trim rings a new (exact) reproductions. including the "stepped" outer edge. The storage compartments behind the seats have the original and good condition black felt liner boxes. The storage door lids have nice matching black carpet. and the black plastic trim surrounds on them are perfect. The white convertible top was new in 2010. It has all of the original decals / stickers under the hood and storage compartments. inc emissions. fan. coolant. unleaded fuel. jacking instructions. etc. ANOTHER (MANDATORY) UPGRADE Another upgrade is that I think was mandatory was that I installed an electric fuel pump on the car - out of necessity as the new gas had some issues making the car vapor-lock in hot weather. The electric pump keeps it being able to start / keep running in hot weather - definitely a necessary upgrade for the fuel type they sell now. But again. and as with the upgraded transmission. you can't really tell it's not stock when you open up the hood. as I even have original type fuel lines going to the carb. OTHER. The red "L82" emblems on the hood were added by me. and were not original to 73's (the only emblems put on the hood in 73 were the red "454" emblems with the big block option). All of the small blocks had a "bare" hood (on this car. I thought it needed a splash of red up there on the hood. hence the addition of the L82 emblems). But they're easy to remove if you want an exact stock look. The red & silver 350 horse power decal on the air cleaner lid is not stock (73's came with no decals there at all. just a plain black lid. Again. I like the splash of red on the top of the air cleaner. so I added it ). The car is tight. and runs and drives straight down the road. perfect alignment. no wobbles. no errors. The steering wheel is straight and in perfect alignment. All buttons. switches. lights. gauges. clock. exterior lights. and dash warning lights work. Wipers and squirters work just as they should. No play in the steering gear box or suspension. The front bumper on the car now is a fiberglass aftermarket one. looks / fits good. but is not an original plastic urethane type - however. I do have a brand new and perfect OEM. NOS bumper cover from GM that will go with the car. Rear bumpers are re-chromed. never damaged OEM. and fit and shine really nice. Frame is straight & clean. has never been hit / damaged (but has some minor surface rust though). Tires are all matching in age / tread remaining. All body panels are the originals except the right fender and right fender skirt. which were replaced with original GM parts due to a relatively minor engine compartment fire on that side (cracked rubber fuel line) - which is why the other upgrade. now there are all braided or steel fuel lines front to rear). ' This car has all of the correct bolts. nuts. washers. fasteners like it came with from the factory. Any person familiar with the type and style of fasteners used back then would recognize the ones on this car as original (they're not the cheap. low-quality reproduction fasteners that so often don't fit right and/or break). Aside from the few upgrades. this car is the real McCoy. The car will come with a 1973 factory assembly manual. an original DuPont color chip page for GM 1973. and has an original owner's manual.
