Description of 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air/150/210 Townsman

1957 Chevrolet 210 6 passenger station wagon. 82,000 miles! Born in the St. Louis assembly plant and still wears what is believed to be most of its original Sierra Gold and Adobe Beige paint. The interior is very clean and presentable, ut has enough of a patina of use to be comfortable. The chrome and stainless trim is all in great shape. All of the windows, ights, linkers, auges, nd horn work.

Over the past 5 years, 've had quite a bit of work done on the car to make it safe and reliable. The original 283 has been rebuilt, ith a completely new fuel system and all new brakes. The cast iron Powerglide was rebuilt about 7 years ago, nd the car has been converted to an alternator. Suspension rebuilt front and rear, nd the added anti-sway bar has made a tremendous improvement in handling. The updated cooling system works really well, ith no overheating in heavy LA traffic. I just completed a 400 mile road trip through the California desert - in July - with no problems.

Here's the good stuff - all of this has been done in the past 5 years:

  • Original 283 V8 engine professionally rebuilt
  • New fuel pump, uel tank, uel sender, teel and rubber fuel lines - Rochester 2GC 2 barrel carb was rebuilt by Hot Rod Carbs (hotrodcarbs.com), hich is truly the authority on 2GC carbs, ith ethanol-resistant parts and jetted for today's gasoline
  • Pertronix Ignitor II billet distributor with Ignitor coil, ires and NGK plugs
  • New water pump, S Radiator 4 Core Desert Cooler radiator, an shroud.
  • Generator converted to alternator with proper wiring harness. Original generator is included.
  • Oil filter converted to spin-on. Original oil filter housing is included.
  • Air filter converted to paper element type. Original oil bath filter insert is included.
  • Brakes have been converted to CPP power discs in front, rofessionally installed with all new steel brake lines and rubber hoses. New rear brake wheel cylinders, hoes, rums, nd small parts as well. All 5 wheels (including the spare) are Danchuk 14" Disc Brake compatible wheels, nd the tires are BF Goodrich Silvertown wide whitewall radials with plenty of tread.
  • New CPP steering linkage, rofessionally installed.
  • CPP front sway bar added - this was a HUGE improvent in handling!
  • Front suspension control arm bushings and shafts replaced, hocks replaced all around, nd replaced leaf springs in the rear
  • California registration paid through June of 2016

Some known issues:

  • The paint looks pretty good, ut is getting thin on the top of the hood and fenders, nd there are numerous little pinhole spots all over with some crazing on the area on top of the driver's side rear fender (see photo).
  • The interior is really quite nice, ut there is a 6" split in the vinyl on the driver's seat back. (see photo)
  • have a reciept from one of the previous owners showing that the Powerglide was rebuilt a few years back. It shifts fine, nd the linkage is adjusted so that it will downshift if you really put your foot in it, ut if the car sits for more than a week or so, t will leak out some of the transmission fluid.
  • The original AM radio is present, ut is not hooked up. I don't know if it works or not - I mounted a small 12v stereo amplifier in the glove box that can connect to any 1/8" headphone output on a phone, Pod or CD player, nd a Classic Autosound stereo 6x9 speaker in the dashboard. It sounds great!
  • The heater valve is stuck closed. A new heater valve and a set of heater valve cables are included.

Now the bad news: while the car is mostly rust-free, here are a few spots that need attention: Both front fender bottoms show evidence of a previous rust repair, hich needs to be done again. There are pinholes on both rocker panels, nd a little bit of surface rust around the roof gutter. The worst rust is the bottom of the tailgate, hich is rusted out. But, f you hit that big "buy it now" button, font>THE BUY IT NOW PRICE INCLUDES A BRAND NEW REPRODUCTION TAILGATE SHIPPED TO YOUR LOCATION FROM ECKLER'S CLASSIC CHEVY! Yes! I'll pay for it and have it shipped directly to you.

This is a really solid, onest, reat driving and dependable car. It gets tons of attention, specially at cruise-ins where over-restored restomodded billet monstrosities are the norm. People can't get enough of a car that looks original and wears it's years of well-maintained service with pride. You could take it to the next level with some bodywork and paint, r simply enjoy it the way it is. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere. I'll throw in a box filled with original parts that have come off the car, s well as some new things that I never got around to installing. And don't forget that BUY IT NOW includes a reproduction tailgate.
