Description of 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air/150/210

Thank you for stopping by and taking a look at my 1955 Chevrolet Sport Coupe. This is a Restomod that has been gone through from end to end. There wasn't a bolt or shim that wasn't replaced. here are some specs for you!

The Body consists of three (3) different cars. All were BelAir 2dr Hardtops

One came out of Tampa Florida. I used the Doors and Trunk Lid, Hood and the interior. The rest of the car was eaten up with rust. Chassis was bent.

One came out of Cleveland Ohio. Main Body was used on this car; The Chassis was rusted almost in half.

One came out of Fremont California. There wasn’t a body on this car, just a rolling Frame.

The chassis has been RE-WORKED and modified since completion by Robert Morris in Belvidere, TN

Various parts from all cars were used to make one (1) good one

The Front Disc brakes consist of:

  • 1970 - 1972 Monte Carlo Inner and Outer Wheel Bearings

  • Use a National Seal #7934S (This Seal is used on 1961 – 1968 Chevy cars WITHOUT disc brakes

  • 1970 – 1972 Monte Carlo Front Rotors

  • 1973 – 1977 Monte Carlo Calipers

  • 1973 – 1972 Monte Carlo Brake calipers Hoses

  • ALL brake lines but the rear going across the housing is Stainless Steel

The Rear Disc Brakes consist of:

  • The Rear Rotors are 79 -81 Pontiac Trans Am Rotors

  • 1980- 1985 Cadillac Seville Calipers

  • Rear Calipers Brake Hoses are from “Brake Best Brake Parts” #BH102470 & #BH102471

  • New GM (Corvette) Style 1 1/8” Bore Chrome Master Cylinder. (Both reservoirs of equal size)

  • A 10lb Residual Valve was installed in line for the Rear Disc brakes

The Motor is a 350cu.in. crate

  • The side motor mount system is by Mike McGaughy,designed for the ¾” forward location on a seamed frame.

  • Side motor mount system uses NAPA #602-1054 motor mount. I had to go to a standard height Chrome valve cover

This Motor is far from Stock, I built it to give me the performance and durability needed.

  • Distributor is an HEI system with a 65,000 Coil

  • The Serpentine System is from a 1995 Chevrolet Astro Van 4.3 w/Air (All Powder coating was done by Nic’s Powder Coating

The Cooling System

  • Fabrication was done to the Radiator support to accommodate the Electric Fan.

  • Lower Radiator Hose is Custom “Cut to fit”

  • Upper Radiator Hose is Custom “Cut to fit”

  • The Aluminum Radiator is a Superior and cools Great!

  • The Electric Fan runs at 2700 CFM

The Transmission is a 700R4 with a Shift kit

  • I took a TH350 out do to Ratio and Gas Mileage

  • Transmission Crossmember had to be Moved back to accommodate

  • The Drive Shaft was shortened by 3”

  • New Transmission mount was installed

  • Intalled a New Quick Shift by Hurst

Tubular upper and lower A-Arms with 55 Chevy Upper and lower ball joints.

  • New Bushing installed that came with A-Arms

  • Heavy Duty Coil Springs for Big Block

  • New Sensa-Trac Shocks on Front

  • New Rubber Bumpers installed

  • New Front Sway Bar Installed for 55-56 Chevy

Rear leaf springs are 5 leaf from a 55-57 Station Wagon

  • New “U” bolts for a 55-56 Chevy Housing

  • New Rubber Bumpers installed

Rear Shock mount from BelAir Classic Chevy Parts

  • New Monroe Load Levelers

Rear-end is a stock housing and consist of:

  • 3:08 Gears from Randy’s Ring and Pinion

  • A rebuilt Positraction-unit from a 55-57 Chevy

  • 1955 Chevrolet “New” Moser engineered axles with bearings and seals

  • New Front and Rear Sway Bars installed for 55-56 Chevy

The body was sent out and was Media Blast with Walnut shells

  • New rear Quarters were Mig welded into place.

  • New Floor braces were installed

  • The floor itself was perfect and needed NO repairs

  • The Trunk floor was real good and minor repair was needed to it.

  • The lower Trunk Pan was replaced (Outer Panel) and Mig welded into place.

  • By this time the chassis was back and waiting the marriage of the Body to the Chassis

For the most part the body was in really pretty good shape.

  • The body work and paint was re-done by Whaley’s Body Shop (Kenneth Burgess) in Lewisburg,Tn

  • Doors, Deck lid and Hood were pre-fitted before paint was done.

  • The name brand of paint that was used was Matrix. I recommend this paint.

The interior was totally thought out and drawn out on paper before starting it.

  • The seats were stripped down and the frames were sent out and were media blasted.

  • Then the seat frames were dipped in a primer base

  • All the seat frames and door panels were totally re-padded and re-covered by Brenda Phillips of Phillips Upholstery in Farmington,Tn.

  • The trunk was done by Brenda Phillips in Farmington,TN, The Embroider work in the trunk was done by Agelessly Blessed Creative Design (Debbie Black)

The Dash area took on a look of it own.

  • I went with the clean look of a digital read out system. I chose the Dakota Digital system.

  • The steering column is an “Flaming River” column

  • All the wiring from bumper to bumper is the NEW EZ Wiring Harness. Real nice Harness!

  • There is a Hidden Wiper system installed which is under the dash. This made the firewall less cluttered.

All the hardware in the interior was re-placed with New Re-productions

  • New Door Handles

  • New Window Cranks

  • New Locks inside and out

  • If it shows it was Re-chromed, Polished out or replaced.
