Description of 1988 Chevrolet Caprice

1988 Chevy Caprice Estate 9 passenger wagon.

Classic White with wood paneled sides and tailgate.

All original right down to the am/fm stereo.

The wagon has lived pretty much her entire life in Florida. She was I believe purchased new in Vero Beach FL and the retired snowbird couple that I purchased her from bought her in 1999 from the original or second owner. They registered her in Massachusetts but wintered with her here in Florida. I got her in 2010. Every once in awhile I’ll get an email from the folks I got her from asking how she’s doing.

I have a slew of paperwork and receipts dating back more years than I’ve had her that will be included with the car along with the original owner’s manual in the glove box.

The car is in really nice condition and has been extremely well maintained and cared for by myself and her previous owners. The paint which was done about 4 years ago looks good and shines nicely. It is the correct color basecoat/clearcoat white for the car. The wood paneling on the side and back of the car is in good shape as well with a few places that have been touched up (pictured).

The wagon has all of the power options that you would expect to find on a fully loaded Caprice of its day windows doors cruise and both front seats are power.

The interior is very nice the seats are in very good condition with just one dime size hole in the driver’s side lower section (pictured) caused by I believe something I had in my back pocket. The front and middle seats are velour the third row rear facing seat is vinyl.

The headliner was replaced about a year ago and the dash is free of cracks. The carpet is original and has faded showing some wear on the driver’s side. For future replacement purposes I researched the color of the carpet it’s called “Federal Blue”.

She runs very well idols accelerates and shifts smoothly.

A/C blows very cold and a few years ago was converted to the newer type refrigerant. The compressor is about a year old.

Tires all have good tread (I would estimate them to still have about 80% remaining tread) and are regularly rotated and balanced. All four tires are of matching size and brand.

The engine is a 307 there are no noises or rattles. I had the valve cover gaskets replaced a short time ago. Oil changes have been done every 2500 to 3000 miles. She shows about 53000 on the odometer but with my putting the last 30k on her I’m fairly certain that the actual mileage is 153k. I’ve not noticed any fluid leaks.

The brakes are newer and the shocks are in good condition the front end is tight.

All the lights both exterior and interior work.

All the windows including the rear door work although the front passenger door window is slower than the others.

The few things that need attention are as follows: About a year ago the original power antenna stopped working I chose to have it replaced with a fixed mast type. The shop that installed the new one spliced the new antenna wire into the old. From then on the stereo’s reception was very poor. So the antenna needs to be replaced with an un-spliced wire to the stereo. The cruise control does not work. It needs the $60.00 relay control box that is under the dash replaced. This is really easy to get to and just plugs in. It was on my “to do” list but I just kept forgetting “to do” it. The rubber front filler panel between the grille and bumper has a couple of cracks in it. The last thing I can think of is the rear exterior window sweeps (rubber seals) have gotten dried and cracked from the Florida sun. I had to two front door sweeps replaced a few years ago.

The insurance on the car only costs me $102.00 for the entire year with Hagerty classic car insurance. That’s full coverage with a 10k value on the wagon.

I’ve a number more photos of the wagon if you’d like me to email them to you let me know but I’ll need a real email address as the photo file is too large to go through eBay’s mail system.

The wagon is a great running driving old girl. We drove her to Alabama and back last November without any issue. I was an awesome retro flashback of a road trip! I wouldn’t hesitate to take her on a cross country trip right now.

Seems just about every I stop someplace with the wagon someone has a story of their family having one of these cars as a kid the road trips they took their friends and neighborhood kids that were hauled around to baseball games the mall burger joint or the video arcade and of course the age old argument over who got to ride in the third seat. I find it really awesome that a station wagon brings back such fond memories to people. I can't imagine that in 20 years kids of today will be reminiscing over the trip that they took in the Dodge Caravan. Wagons are just cool!

If you’ve any questions just shoot me an email and I’ll get back with you asap. If you’re local or even if you’re not and would like to see the wagon in person let me know and we’ll work something out.

Thanks much.
