Description of 1982 Datsun Z-Series Turbo GL

The year was 1987, I was 30 years old, and when I laid eyes on this 280zx Turbo, I knew I had to have it. Now, in the year 2017, I do not expect its magnetism will be any less compelling. Take a look. Regatta Red, you hardly see Red, why ? I am stumped, on this Turbo looker red iz most deserving! In model year 1982, Datsun produced nine thousand and eighty two 280zx Turbo models. Mine iz number 6677. As it turns out, My red Z-car iz a rare factory exception (refer to the Engine Model Plate photograph # 16). On my Engine Model Plate shows the original factory exterior red paint color code iz # 013 Regatta Red. Regatta Red was not a factory standard color for 1982 model year 280zx's. Rallye Red # 807, was the paint color for model year 1982 280zx. Regatta Red was the available exterior color option for 1981 and 1983 280zx model years. I contacted Nissan about this paint-color anomaly. Nissan had no explanation (or records). Nissan could not provide me with the number of 1982, 280zx Turbo models produced with # 013 Regatta Red exterior Paint. I am confident there were only a few.

Now, let's talk condition. The photographs speak for themselves. Iz my Z in # 1 "Concours" condition as defined by Hagerty Valuation Tools, no, it iz not. I honestly value my 280zx Turbo in between the # 2 excellent, and #3 good, on the Hagerty scale. I have owned this Z-car for thirty years (2nd owner). My Z has always been well maintained, garage-kept, original, and factory complete, with all original matching engine, model ID, and VIN identification plates (firewall, door plate etc.).

Exterior: My Z-car iz almost all original. The left front quarter-panel has been replaced, and the entire car repainted 25 years ago (LF Qtr. Pnl still needs a little tweek work, see photo # 19). I believe I replaced a tail-light assembly also. Other than that, everything else iz original. Doors, Hood, T-Tops w/ Shades, Gas Cap, Spare-Tire & Jack, Trim, Badges, everything except the rubber (tires, wiper blades). Iz there a pit here and there, and a small scratch or two, yes there iz. Overall, I would say the exterior of my Z-car iz very good.

Interior : I had new upholstery installed, along with new carpeting (see photos). Everything else iz original. There are no cracks in the dash (garage-kept, dash sun-shade). All the Instrumentation, Power Options,Gauges, Synthesized Audio Voice-Warning System (she: "lights are on"), Heater, A/C, Cruise Control, Multi- Function Clock, everything iz in perfect working order. I do not know how you can get much better than this. I would say the interior iz very good.

Engine-Transmission : The L28et-180 bhp Engine, Borg-Warner T-5 Transmission, and Drive-Train have been well maintained, and are all Original Equipment. I had the original Turbo-Charger replaced by a Nissan Factory Dealer at 81,000 miles (documentation receipt available). The car runs great ! Other documented receipts for maintenance include new tires at 124,000 miles, new rear struts at 145,000 miles, new alternator at 152,000 miles, and a new battery at 153,800 miles. Other than the original turbo (28 yrs ago) I have never had any mechanical issues with the Engine,Transmission, or Drive-Train, All seals and gaskets are intact, no drips or leaks. The good news about the mileage, when the car shows up in your driveway, you can drive it, as much as you want ! This 280zx Turbo iz no china doll for display only. Have fun, feel the GZZZ .......Very very few of the total miles have been driven in the last 16 years. I would rate the Engine-Transmission, Good +.

Plenty of extras included : Canvas Car Cover w/ storage bag, Locking lug nuts / Key, Heavy-duty black floor mats, Chiltons Repair & Tune-up Manual, Reprinted 1983 Users Manual, original tire-change tools, spare-tire air cannister, box of misc. car parts, maybe more, I have to look.

If you have been wanting, waiting, dreaming, or trying to acquire a special, original, 280zx Turbo, without breaking the bank, your opportunity iz now here!! Any questions? Contact me!

This 1982 280zx Turbo machine iz truly amazing, honestly, this Z-car can hibernate for extended periods of time, and then start right up on the third crank and run like a Cheetah ...
