Description of 1982 DeLorean

deloreanmotorcompany Store A service client of DeLorean Motor Company brought us this car for restoration in late 2013. Over $12K in recent service (outlined below) has been performed. The owner's health has taken turn for the worse. and the remaining work required to make the car drive safely has not been completed. The owner has asked us to sell the car "as-is" on his behalf. The car is a clean. clear blue Texas title and is ready for transfer. John DeLorean's younger brother. Charles DeLorean. owned a Cadillac dealership from the 1970s through the early 2000's in Lakewood. Ohio. This dealership. DeLorean Cadillac. also had a DeLorean franchise and sold more than a hundred DeLorean cars from 1981 into 1984. Records are incomplete. but this car appears to have originally been sold in 1984. DeLorean Cadillac purchased so many DeLorean cars in early 1982 that they began to paint some of them to increase their appeal at the time. Cars painted by DeLorean Cadillac are characteristically a "candy apple" color - red and blue being the two most common. The unique silver side stripe is also characteristic of the cars painted and sold by DeLorean Cadillac. Repainted in 2008 in the original House of Kolor Apple Red and Brandywine with a Silver undercoat at a cost of over $8. 00. Full paint codes are on file here at DMC and copies are included with the car documentation. The car was brought to DMC (Texas) in 2013 after sitting for a few years. The front bumper cover had the normal (but undesireable) warping over the headlights and was replaced with a modern fiberglass reproduction and painted to match at a cost of nearly $2. 50. At the same time. the lower rock screen and front spoiler were also replaced for cosmetic reasons. The rest of paint is good. but buffing would probably improve it further. A few small areas have imperfections in the clear coat as shown in the photos. There is one large spot on the hood where it appears something was spilled on the hood - hard to photograph. but visible. In getting the car ready to be back on the road. the fuel tank was cleaned and the trouble-prone in-tank components replaced with the modern integrated pump/sender unit and new control pressure (warmup) regulator was also installed. At the same a complete cooling system overhaul was completed including all hoses. clamps. radiator (including support brackets and braces). water pump. otterstat (cooling fan) switch. fan cowl and thermostat. Clutch hydraulics were also attended to. with a new clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder installed. The car is already fitted with a stainless steel clutch line. In the course of completing the 30K mile engine service the following items were addresses: Replace spark plugs and wires Replace distributor cap and rotor. /p> Replace oxygen sensor. reset service interval (lambda) counterReplace fuel and air filtersChange oil and filterReplace alternator and AC compressor beltsSet timing and adjust COInspect/Tighten trailing arm bolts We completed a full inspection of this vehicle once the car was running again and identified several areas that require attention. some of them minor and some more serious. The single BAE turbocharger that is fitted to the car appears to be inoperative. In order to complete the service and check our work. the turbo and exhaust were bypassed and the engine was found to run well after the 30K mile service. The muffler is very rusted as shown. and needs replacement. Brake calipers need to be rebuilt/overhauledBrake rotors need to be turned (machined)Brake master cylinder needs to be replacedReplacement of flexible brake lines recommended Driver's side window motor needs replacementMinor cosmetic issues include poor headliners. some exterior rubber seals as the most noticeable and needed service itemsMinor surface rust on some painted suspension components and the typical areas around the fuel tank closing plate from a leaky brake master cylinder. Roof box is in excellent condition as shown in the photos. Interested buyers are strongly encouraged to come and see the car in person by appointment at our suburban Houston. Texas location. As it sits. the car is not safe to drive and the buyer should be prepared to have the car shipped to them at the buyer's expense - we can assist with locating a shipper and loading the car. As a separate transaction. our service department can complete any or all recommended service prior to delivery. This car is sold "as-is" with no warranty whatsoever. With a very low reserve. this 1982 DeLorean is a rare opportunity to acquire an interesting car with a documented. interesting history. On Feb-04-15 at 14:27:16 PST. seller added the following information:At some point in the car's past the A/C was converted to R134. We were unable to test the AC but confirm that the compressor spins freely and the system does have some refrigerant in the system. In our opinion. completing the brake caliper overhaul. replacing the brake master cylinder and removing the turbo/muffler and replacing with a stock or performance exhaust would be the quickest and least expensive path to making this a running and driving car.
