Description of 1971 Dodge Dart Swinger

This auction is for a unique example of Mopar Muscle. a1971 Dodge Dart Swinger. What makes this Dart special is that it set up to handle. It was built as a tribute to the legendary Trans Am series. While it is at home on a road course. it is still street legal and registeredon the street for California. An original EV2 color code. Hemi Orange car. this Mopar has a number of great features: The engine is a 360 c. i. with machine work done by the Balance Shop(they do a number of the vintage Trans Am race cars out here on the west coast). it has ported "J" heads by West Coast Racing Cylinder Heads(with hardened exhaust seats). forged. polished and peened rods. forged pistons and an M-1 intake that has been port matched to the heads. It has a freshly rebuilt Holley carb. a forged crank that has been micro polished. with chamfered oil holes. the block has been bored. mag'd. deck surfaced. tc. Its running a Mopar Performance 284-112 cam. MP cast valve covers and air cleaner. Mopar orange electronic ignition and the best headers around-TTI(exiting through side pipes)The transmission is also special-its Mopar 833 . close ration four speed(the same one found in the AAR Cuda and TA Challenger. It was rebuilt by H/P Transmission and has a 18lb flywheel with a fresh diaphram. pressure plate(Mcleod) and clutch. The Holley electric pump is also fresh as are many of the fuel lines. The chassis is also race prepped with 155rate SS springs. 109 torsion bars. fully adjustable shocks from Mopar road race specialist All Time Racing. Mosler 30 sp axles. 11 3/4 " rotors and the big 11x2 1/2" drums in back. All the hubs are the big 4. 5 bolt pattern. Extra duty road race wheel studs are also present. Additionally. the TA quick ration steering box was built by Performance Automotive. The Dart also features new pitman arms. poly bushings. a 73 K-member that has been seam welded and the steering box mount has been boxed and re-enforced. the lower control arms are also welded and strengthened and chassis connectors are fitted. In short. this is a dialed in A-body chassis. Hellwig prototype sway bars. a four point roll bar and a fresh 8 3/4 Detroit Locker by the Gear Man and Cannon Engineering driveshaft complete the chassis. There is an Accusump oil accumulator under the hood to protect the engine under high cornering loads and start up. A custom set of Genuine Minilite wheels were ordered from the UK and fitted to this Dart. These were the wheels all the Trans Am teams ran back in the original series. Dunlop SP8000 tires are mounted to the Minilites. The body is an original Hemi orange with a Motor City original black vinyl top. A Mopar TA style hood scoop is mounted to the hood which is also equipped with hood pins to secure the hood on track. The body is rust free and straight and the bumper chrome is good driver quality. The Dart shows well and looks great. especially for a race car. The interior is black with a nice dash. custom gauges. a very nice LeCarra steering wheel and alloy hub. Another cool feature is the seats-an original set of expensive Porsche leather Recaros are mounted. They look very similar the the original Mopar seats. yet are very comfortable and supportive. There are Crow harnesses fitted but they are out of date and would need to be updated for track use. although fine for the street. This Dart has been run a few times at Willow Springs. Button Willow and some club auto cross events. For the last few years it has mainly been used on the street. It is very well sorted. runs cool with great oil pressure. At ButtonWillow. it had little difficulty running down BMW M3s and other sportscars. Its also been driven to the Mopars at the Strip event a few times without issue. run the autocross and then driven back home(an 800+mile round trip). While set up to run the track. it has no problem running on the street. It has functioning lights. signals. horn. wipers. tc. There is no heater equipped as we rarely need on out here in socal. but it wouldn't be difficult to refit one if needed. It rides well and handles modern traffic easily. The Dart also has nice door panels and carpet for street duty. A Cobra type Raydyot mirror adds a nice vintage touch. Should you decide to return to the track. a current fuel cell. modern belts. sticker tires and fire system would do it. It does have a hand held extinguisher mounted. With the popularity of resto mods. Pro Touring and the vintage road race vibe these days-this Dart was far ahead of the curve. Let all these new comers arrive with their coil overs. gigantic tires and custom chassis-you can run them down with these "true Mopar". Another cool bit of this car's history is that it was featured in Hot Rod Magazine in June 2004. Not many cars ever receive that honor. This great Mopar is a rare opportunity to have a cool street car that is always a hit at Cars and Coffee. ralleys and driving events. You can also run track days and mix it up with Boss 302s. AARs. Z/28s and the like without spending a fortune. Remeber the first American car to win a Trans Am race was a Dodge Dart! This Dart is offered at no reserve and of course. is sold "as is". Good luck bidding and thanks for looking. On Feb-16-15 at 18:25:11 PST. seller added the following information: I'm also selling a very original 1969 Dodge Polara. selling off a couple of my Mopars unfortunately. as I've found a car I've been wanting for years. Thanks for checking out my auctions.
