Description of 1972 Ford Maverick

1972 Ford Maverick 2 door, Survivor car, original paint, interior, motor etc etc. Clean, clean, clean, mostly original car besides standard maintenance items. Just under 84,000 original miles. Bought from the original owner in 2008. Always garage kept and well maintained its entire life. 200 cubic inch 6 cylinder with a 3 speed manual shift on the column. This car had car was ordered with 2 options, body side moldings and bumper guards. I removed the bumper guards when I got it for a cleaner look but I still have them and they would go with the car and can easily be bolted back on. I also removed oversized mud flaps and protective screen across the grill, again he was very protective of the car as you can see. Original owner and sons claim its original paint, Always a sceptic but I had a body shop painter look at the car and he saw no signs of painting etc so I can only go from what they told me. There are a few spots around trunk seal where he touched it up himself with a little brush, nothing bad looking just wanted to mention it, see pics. The car had trim rings and Center caps on it when I got it which he had put on it in at some point for a sporty look, I removed the trim rings just for a different look after I had it a few years, also shown are the original factory hubcaps it came with currently on the car, both sets go with car. runs great, always has been dependable. The original owner had the engine head redone with new seats and valve job around 78,000 miles. This car runs great and does not smoke, has some minor oil wetness around the front of the oil pan but nothing really leaking to speak of. I was fortunate to get to meet the original owner when I purchased the car in 2008, he had just gone into a nursing home and I was able to ask him and his sons some history on the car. He bought it new and it was always garaged, he worked at the Hoover company which was 2 blocks from his house so he mostly walked to work and left the car in the garage. They gave me a folder with receipts, maintenance records etc, he even kept original parts he had replaced over the years like spark plugs, cap, rotor, air filters etc. As you can see the car was really protected extremely well by undercoating it with cosmoline right after he bought it, this is a gooey soft undercoating that continues to run out between the quarter panels and the rocker panel on hot summer days. This car was undercoat sprayed twice in its lifetime as the original owner wanted to protect it as much as possible. There are plugs here and there so that the inner rocker were completely covered inside with cosmoline as well. I believe if you wanted to remove the cosmoline that you would see all original paint underneath. This is an extremely solid car, door seams, trunk seam all in great solid condition, there is very slight surface rust starting on bottom side of trunk but the seams are still perfect as well as the hood is, these were common rust areas on Mavericks and this one is solid. The only rust which is shown in the pictures is on the passenger front fender for some reason, at the bottom you can see maybe an 1/8" hole and some pin holes and some rust around the marker light but it really hasn't changed since I got the car but then again it's always garaged and only has been driven to local car shows and cruise ins. The interior is all original, no cracks in the original dash pad which is rare or the steering wheel, the front seat, well one son said its been covered since it was new and the other said it was covered later on in life but I can tell there are no rough edges or tears under the cover, I didn't even realize it was a cover for some time as its permanently secured on there etc. Carpet isoriginal and in excellent condition as wel and always a non smoker car! Tires are worn, they hold air and drive fine but I wouldn't go far with them just for safety reasons but I've been running them since I got the car, shown in the pic are 2 rims with tires and 1 tire that go with the car as well and the original am radio, I put an am/fm CD player in it but nothing was cut so it can be put back to original easily. Up under the dash is a cigarette lighter with a cap inserted in it, Not sure if that's a delete or a cover I never really messed with it. The clutch works fine but I would consider it fair when taking off but maybe that's an adjustment I don't know but it engages and you don't smell anything burning etc so I believe it to be ok. Also I will be putting a new battery in it this week as the current one is weak. The only thing that looks not original is the front gravel pan between the bumper and grill had been painted silver by the old fellow so I painted it matter black, I believe it should be the same red as the body but I'm not positive, I just wanted to freshen that area up at one point. Note the DOWNTOWN MOTORS decal is still intact on the rear bumper 45years later, DOWNTOWN MOTORS, Canton, Ohio 1972!., well that's about it, again a very well protected original car that looks and drives great, good chrome and trim, glass, body and interior in excellent condition for 45 years old which leads me to say, it's 45 years old so it does have a few small dings and Knicks etc. You are welcome to see locally anytime. Feel free to contact me for questions. I reserve the right to sell locally or withdraw the sale. I've tried to describe the car to the best of my abilities, not to make it look ar sound bad but I just try to give a fair perspective so nothing is missed. Almost every time I stop to get gas in this car people come over to see it, they get a real kick out of it. Local pickup, car will not be released until funds are clear no exceptions. Thanks for looking! happy bidding!

This is an extremely solid car, door seams, trunk seam all in great solid condition, there is very slight surface rust starting on bottom side of trunk but the seams are still perfect (Added, I believe now looking closer the area I referred to as surface rust isreal the paint rubbed off over the years where the seal is FYI) as well as the hood is rust free and you can see in added photos the factory yellownumbering still on the hood, these were common rust areas on Mavericks and this one is solid. ADDED: I just wanted to add to go to the link to see more pictures, especially the underneath of the car, it was completely covered in cosmoline since new including the fender lips, the only rust you see on the bottom of this car is on the exhaust pipe (just cosmetic).
