Description of 1985 Ford Mustang SVO

I am the recent second owner and have known this car for 20 years. Purchased from the original owner, this SVO may one of the best documented 1985.5 SVO's in the world. The 85.5 SVO is the rarest of all of the nearly 10,000 built. Only 439 examples were made mid-year 1985 with the unique 205 HP rating in the 2.3 turbo four. For 1986, Ford dropped the HP rating down to 200. They also changed some trim. The 85.5 is by far the most desirable and Bright Red being the most sought after with only 169 examples of the color produced, this car being the 9th off the assembly line. Overall, it is the 65th 1985.5 SVO produced of the 439 to leave Dearborn. Other options make the car even more rare. It is 1 of 64 with sunroof and being an original Ohio car, one of 67 with the very rare factory and required, SVO only front license plate frame/bracket.
The car comes with an amazing amount of documentation. Probably one of the most documented SVO's in existence. Only the original window sticker is missing, as the dealer did "could not" save it, but the owner was able to retrieve everything else. Reproduction window stickers are available from Ford.
Documents included with this car are:
-Original Ford Factory Invoice -Ford Performance Group SVO Certificate -Deluxe Marti Report -Original Dealer Bill of Sale/Receipt -Ford Performance Group SVO build statistics sheet -Haag Ford of Lawrenceburg, IN oil change coupon -Haag Ford receipt for down payment -Haag Ford receipt for dealer installed cruise control -Original owners warranty card with metal imprint area -Stepco receipt for undercoating in July of 1985 -Haag Ford recommended maintenance schedule -Ford Command Cruise Control Warranty sheet/registration -Haag Ford oil change receipt from 1990 showing 38428 miles -1989 Vehicle inspection report showing the car passed inspection -Original Goodyear tire warranty pamphlet -Original owners manual folder -Ford dealer installed cruise control hang card for stalk -1985 Mustang Owners guide and warranty information booklet -Waxoyl warranty information and 1985 Ford passenger car maintenance log/schedule -1985 Mustang Operating Guide - Original Ford/UAW "Quality is Job 1" plastic bag which kept all guides and manuals -Original Koni Shock guide -Original Koni Shock adjustment knob -Receipt for wheel refinishing from Engineered Wheel Repair of Indy -Product update sheet for installation of dealer cruise control
The car wears it's original Bright Red paint. Aside from the occasionalchip/scratch you would find on a driven car, the car does have an area shown in the pictures where a scratch was wet sanded when new to blend the scratch and the wet sanding went through the single stage enamel paint. This would be an easy repair by airbrushing the area and blending into the surrounding doors. The only rust area found was an area smaller than a dime on the under side of the hatch around the licenseplate light lense. This has been touched up as well. The car is absolutely clean and would easily meet MCA concours status, either "driven" as is, or more stringentclasses if detailing continued.
The interior is near perfect, with the driver's seat being a 8.5-9/10 and the rest like new. Never smoked in, never abused. The A/C still blows cold as ice with it's original R12 refrigerant. I did less than a 12 oz of R12, or about 1/4 the total charge, as the compressor would kick off after 20-30 seconds, but the system held constant pressure on the HVAC gauges for over an hour.I've also replaced the brake fluid with DOT 5 silicon fluid for long term storage and hard use if you drive the car as it was meant to be driven. I completely flushing the system of all the DOT3 mineral fluid. At the same time I rebuilt all the calipers and detailed the suspension at all four corners. The front right Koni was weak, so I replaced all the Koni's with new Koni's, with the exception of the horizontal anti-wind shocks. I had he original decals reproduced to look original. All the original Koni's will come with the car along with a host of NOS parts as well as ALL THE ORIGINALPARTS TAKEN OFF SINCE DAY ONE, including all the spark plugs. Original hoses were replaced with correct date coded, NOS pieces. The old hood pad was replaced with a NOS piece. The original owners went to local Ford area dealerships in 1995 and bought every new old stock SVO part they could find. Many come with this car. Either on the car or in a box. The replaced headlight and front marker lights are NOS, with the originals included with the sale. The tires are BF Goodrich Comp T/A's, but are getting on 10 years of age. They had the rubber nibs on them when I got the car. I would drive this car to California tomorrow, in style and with speed. It is nearly like NEW!
This car was purchased by a female Ford enthusiast as her first car and her father was a Shelby/Mustang/Ford enthusiast, SAAC board member and one of the founding members of the Indiana Region SAAC.
The only other minor flaw are in the wheels which were refinished in 2010 and one is starting to peel it's clear coat. I have an extra set of wheels and brand new Goodyear Eagle GT tires that can be negotiated at the time of sale.
The documentation on this car is amazing. The condition is amazing. It's been kept indoors all it's life and never driven in winter, being babied by Ford enthusiasts who are heavily involved in the Mustang/Shelby/Ford hobby and are well known in the Shelby and Mustang hobby.
Don't miss out of this unique opportunity to purchase one of the finest SVO's on the planet.
I have dozensmore pictures and would be happy to send them to you. Along with any areas of the car I have not photographed. This car WILL NOT disappointthe most discriminating Ford buyer. If you're looking for an original paint, unmolested 85.5 SVO, especially in the most desired Bright Red, there are few, if ANY out there. Car is priced at buy it now according to recent market value. Reasonable offers will be considered. NO TIRE KICKERS. This car is unique and expensive. It compares to few, if any, Bright Red Aero SVO's.
