Up for auction is a beautiful 1979 Ford F-250 4x4. This rig is equipped with the best of everything a Ford could offer in 1979. The bigger 400m 6.6 Liter v8 motor known for its torque. Mated to a rugged 4 speed manual transmissionwith granny low 1st gear; a tough np205 transfer case and a Dana 44 front axle with a Dana 60 in the rear. This is a perfect example of a classic original California truck born in San Jose, CA, and never leaving the mild climate of the San Franciscobay area in its 38 years of life. The 73-79 Ford F series trucks nicknamed "Dentside era" are very popular with consumers and collectors alike. 4 wheel drive models are seeing a consistentrise in values due to their dwindling supply in good presentable condition. Dentside era Fords have a great combination of good looks with the toughness and capabilityto handle any challenge. In other words this a real truck and they simply don't make em like this anymore. Being a 38 year old 4x4 truck you are hard pressed to find one that hasn't been hacked up, rusted out, or made to look like something its not. In 1979 this truck was ordered with a rare Medium Chestnut Metallicpaint finished with a tan interior and white wheels. Never has this rig been lifted or modified. Essentially this truck is a blank canvas and possibilitiesare endless with a classic 4 wheel drive dentside. As mentioned before this truck is pretty much all original when it comes to under the hood and body. The original 400m motor starts up and drives. However it is a 38 year old motor and is not what it used to be. It does pull strong and will drive but has developed a ticking sound, and in my opinion the start of a knock. I have not ran a compression test on it. It shifts in all gears and reverse fine, 4 wheel drive works. Original axles and springs. This truck does not pass the California emissions requirements but has all the original CA smog equipment. All the lights are functional and it does drive down the road with ease and actually surprisinglywell for a 38 year old 4x4. This is a great candidate to have the motor massaged and pumped up, the 400m is an underrated motor and can be made into a powerful torque monster without a lot of work. The 400m is actually the evolution of the legendary 351 Cleveland motor. It has a slightly longer stroke and was actually 402 c.i.d making it the largest displacement small block v8 that Ford produced. Combine that with a 4 speed, a NP 205 transfer case and Dana 44/60 axles; there really is nothing better produced in this era.
Cosmeticallythis truck is in fantastic condition. As mentioned before it has never left the San Francisco bay area and reaped the benefits of a mild climate environment. It has been repainted once its lifetime the originalMedium Chestnut metallic. The body is very straight and solid, there are no dents or scratches. All the chrome shines nicely, there are some dings in the grille and only one pieceof trim is missing.(Drivers rear turn signal) The interior has been refreshed with a new carpet and the bench seat has been reupholstered. The drivers door handle inside is missing but other than that the interior is in great shape and essentially new.
