Description of 1950 Ford Other

1950 FORD DELUXE FORDOR SEDAN

77,000 original miles, Sheridan blue with gray cloth interior, one family ownership since my grandfather bought this car new, in my possession since 1993, no accidents or body damage ever, stored for 30 years before $40,000 frame-off restoration completed in 1996 at about 60,000 miles, carefully maintained since then, shown occasionally and driven at least weekly. Car is currently registered in Maryland with clean title. Always garaged, currently kept in heated / air-conditioned garage.

Dennis Carpenter-rebuilt flathead V-8, NOM but correct 1950 8BA motor with hardened valve seats (runs on unleaded gas), 100 HP, 3-speed trans with overdrive. All body, frame, paint, mechanical and electrical work complete; high-quality, original style LeBaron-Bonney interior showing no wear. All restoration work documented with receipts and photo album. Car is all stock and original with exception of seat belts (welded floor mounts), outside rearview mirrors and Coker whitewall radials for driving safety. No factory options except heater / defroster. Clutch, brakes, battery, suspension components (shocks & idler arm) and radiator hoses done within the past couple of years. New windshield; all other glass is original Ford script and very good condition. Some spare parts (carburetor, NOS oil pump, generator, etc.) included, along with owner's and service manuals.

The overdrive operates properly when cold but sometimes does not always shift into OD when hot; this does not bother me because I do not do much highway driving. Otherwise everything works as it should and the car is in excellent overall mechanical and cosmetic condition. This car is a turnkey driver that starts and runs reliably, steers and stops straight, and needs nothing.

THE RESERVE IS $12,000. No trades. No international sales. Feel free to ask questions before bidding, and I will provide prompt, honest answers. I am a private seller, not a dealer or broker, so no financing or time payment requests please. $500 non-refundable deposit required within 5 business days of auction closing; balance by electronic transfer or cashier's check due within 10 additional business days. Will deliver locally (DC metro area).

Thanks for looking!

A few more details on the restoration:I got this car passed on to me with no thought of selling. It ran but needed an overall restoration. Over 2 1/2 years, costs were approximately:-- $7K for the rebuilt engine block, heads and top end parts;-- $8K for installation of the complete Lebaron-Bonney interior kit and various new or reconditioned interior trim pieces;-- $10K for a body-lifted-off-the-frame chassis renovation, including new floorpans, fabricated frame-to-body mounting tabs, new engine & trans mounts, welded seat belt anchors, springs, bushings, and clean used front fenders;--$10K for complete inside & out prep and paint, using original DuPont chips for body and interior color matching, with powder coated original wheels and original colors on engine bay finishes; and--At least $5K on various other electrical, mechanical & cosmetic components, to make the car show-worthy but suitable for daily driving. All of this is way more than the market value of the car, but cost considerations came in second to sentimental value. Therefore, I consider the $12,000 reserve to be realistic. After enjoying the restored car for 22 years and almost 20,000 miles, and in view of my own creeping health issues, I am now willing to sell. The car runs smoothly, has decent power to keep up with traffic, has great brakes (for drums), and does not have any lurking problems. American Collectors insurance coverage is based on an assessed value of $17,000.I would be reluctant to make any long interstate trips without the overdrive in perfect condition; therefore, I would recommend shipping for any long-distance buyer. However, I have made many 1-2 hour local trips with no problems, and can deliver the car anywhere in the greater DC-Maryland-Virginia suburbs area.
