Description of 1971 Ford Torino Cobra Jet |
The 1971 Ford Torino already looked like a muscle car that commands respect. But this low mileage example really earns its awe with a numbers-matching block Cobra Jet V8, a close-ratio four-speed manual, tach, and plenty of other options. Ford may have had the Torino as an intermediate car in '71, but this design was made to own the road with its size. The extra-long hood, pillarless hardtop profile, and fastback-style rear gives this an absolutely intimidating presence. Heck, the sharply pointed front end looks like it wants to spear a Chevelle as it muscles up from behind! The whole package is done nicely for maximum aggression. Up front, the bright chrome bumper shines to make the blackout grille look even darker by comparison. And the rear has one of the best integrated rear spoilers of the era. This Ford even gets the speedy details right, like the Cobra badges and Mag 500 wheels with correct center caps. The burgundy paint was an upgrade later in life, and it so it has quite a nice shine. It's a great color because it has the appeal of red that has gone over to the dark side. Plus, it coordinates nicely with the black performance pieces, like the Cobra Jet hood scoop, matte black hood stripe, blackout rear panel, and louvered rear window cover. The upgrade to maroon exterior paint was also a wise move, because it looks so nice against the factory-correct ginger tan interior. The odometer is believed to reflect actual mileage at averaging less than 850 miles annually, and such low mileage means little time to wear out the nice color. This really is a terrific-looking time capsule, right down to the working AM radio. And while you'll love this for its complete and clean vintage look, you're also going to want this hardtop for how much of a driver's machine it is. You get high-back bucket seats, a center console, power steering, and a dual spoke steering wheel that gives you a good view of the extra wide speedometer and special ribbon-style tachometer. That last one goes particularly well with the Hurst shifter. One of this coupe's best options you'll spot on the included Marti Report is the 429 cubic-inch Cobra Jet V8. So it will make you quite happy to pop the hood and see the numbers-matching CJ big block with four-barrel carburetor staring back at you. It's an important motor, and so they made sure it looks quite tidy. Ford blue on the engine block, finned valve covers, correct decals, and that shaker scoop on top all add up to a show-quality engine bay. It fires up with authority, and the V8 runs with the kind of quality that tells you it has been maintained properly. The dual exhaust lets everyone know you have a big block lurking under the hood. And you have full control over the big power and thunderous soundtrack thanks to the close-ratio four-speed manual transmission. The sale comes complete with the right paperwork, including the factory buildsheet, original warranty card, owner's manual, and Marti Report. This is a special and powerful Ford that is true muscle car royalty. Call now! |
