Description of 1973 Jeep CJ CJ5

Are you looking for an ultra low mile unmolested 1973 Jeep CJ7 Project? This is it... a local barn find 1973 Jeep CJ5 with the 232 6 cylinder coupled with a 3 speed manual transmission. The sheet metal under the jeep is not for the faint of heart, but every part it needs is reproduced or easily found.

This Jeep has an unbelievable 15756 original miles and the tires and hub caps are original, with all tires date coded late 1972. The spare has never been on the ground and matches the rest of the tires. Please read on for further details, photos and videos.

This classic Jeep CJ spent much of its life used for plowing snow and stored in a barn. We believe it has had 2-3 owners and the miles appear to be original. Please check out the DOT codes on the tires. You will see that they are November of 1972. It includes the Western plow and controls, as well as the hard top and doors. It was stored in Southeast WI and is a fairly complete vehicle. It is in need of a complete restoration as you can see. Please scroll down and enjoy the 250+ photos. Condition Report:

This vehicle has been stored for years in a barn and has had a hard life plowing snow and used as a lot truck. As you can see, it needs to be disassembled and restored and rust wise, is not for the faint of heart. While it appears nearly complete, it needs to be completely restored.

This Jeep is a sweetheart mechanically, but will need tub work. The underbody of the tub is fairly rough. The floor pans have been patched with wood, etc. and the rear bed pan is bowed and needs attention. It will need floor pans, bed pan, tub braces and maybe some welding on the frame although it seems fairly solid. The body panels look better than they are as there is some filler as shown. It will need a new windshield frame due to rust as shown.

The Western Plow is functional and in great shape with the exception of the lower lip where it looks like it has worn on the pavement at one time. Please see the video of the plow in action.

The top and doors can be removed and is either a factory option or dealer installed. It is in great shape. The glass is in good shape with no cracks. Check out the original seats that are amazingly clean for the age.

Nearly every accessory works, the gauges appear to work, it runs and drives down the road fairly well considering nothing has been done aside from a fuel pump, fuel filter and air cleaner. It starts right up and runs well with no valve train or other noise that we heard. It also steers and stops well. We did not test the 4WD as we did not want to have an issue.

We would suggest checking the fluids, changing the oil, checking the brakes and giving the vehicle a tune up. It looks super clean under the oil cap and the oil looks fairly clean. Nealy part needed is reproduced as far as sheet metal, and you can buy a complete tub if desired. it is complete or nearly complete.

To summarize, it is our opinion that this vintage 1973 Jeep CJ5 would be an excellent restoration or reconditioning candidate. Everything shown is included. Also note that as mentioned, it needs a complete restoration and is being sold as-is-where-is. This rare find would make a great project for the AMC Jeep CJ enthusiast, father and son or weekend mechanic.
