Description of 1972 Jeep Wagoneer

This 1972 Jeep Wagoneer is being relisted because the Buyer was unable to secure a loan to purchase the vehicle. Please DO NOT bid on the Wagoneer unless you are certain you have the funds and will be able to pay for it after the auction close. This auction is for a running and driving 1972 Jeep Wagoneer Investment Grade vehicle with 56,089 miles. The photos of the additional parts to complete this restoration are included within the listing photos. A complete ground up frame off (photos document) restoration began more than 10 years ago by a retired professional auto restoration mechanic on Cape Cod. More than $ 20,000+ has been invested in the restoration of this vehicle. All of the major restoration work has been meticulously professionally completed - but there are still several minor items that need to be completed. I purchased this Jeep from the estate of the late professional mechanic who worked on this car for more than one decade - as his family knew that I also restored Jeep Wagoneers - and would try to complete this restoration as a tribute to their late father. Regrettably a series of health issues and extenuating circumstances forces me to sell this absolutely incredible vehicle without finalizing the restoration. The quality of work and grade of parts used to restore this 1972 Jeep Wagoneer are beyond anything that I have ever seen.
The following is the most accurate detailed list that I can provide of the restoration process and work that has been invested in this vehicle to date (with photos to document) :
  • Body disassembled and install on a rotisserie
  • Frame disassembled, reinforced, restored, painted and sealed (photos document)
  • Suspension disassembled, reinforced, restored and sealed (photos document)
  • Steering disassembled, rebuilt and restored
  • Brakes disassembled, cleaned up and restored
  • Drive train and accessories disassembled, restored and painted (photos document)
  • Most chrome parts have been re-chromed (chrome is breath taking)
  • Engine removed from vehicle and completely broken down to block and then rebuilt using extremely high quality high performance parts (photos document)
  • Transmission removed from vehicle and completely rebuilt (including gears) using high performance parts
  • Entire exterior of vehicle sand/soda blasted to bare metal with any and all rust removed and then 3 coats of primer applied and then color sanded with 2,500 grit before 3 coats of gold paint were applied (despite the investment in the paint application I have seen much better)
  • All glass is crystal clear - no hazing or milkiness
There have been more than 500+ restoration hours invested in this vehicle by a retired Professional Mechanic - so please factor that into consideration when bidding. The opening bid price of $ 3,500 equates to less than $ 7 per hour for labor - when he billed $ 100 per hour for restoring the vintage vehicles of other people (which is the average labor rate today ).
While the photos in this listing provide the details of what will be required to complete this restoration - the new owner should plan on purchasing and installing the following items (many of the parts required to complete this restoration are in the rear cargo area of the vehicle) :
  • Headliner
  • Carpet
  • Wiper arms
  • Inside door trim panels
  • Glove box latch and interior liner
  • Rear Window (in rear of Jeep)
  • Passenger side rear brake light assembly
  • Antenna (in rear of Jeep)
  • Seat belts and brackets (in rear of Jeep)
  • Rear Bumper
  • Tires (OK but signs of dry rot)
  • Radio
  • Rear seat bracket
  • Lock cylinder for driver side door
  • Rear tailgate lock cylinder with electric switch
If you are very serious about purchasing this Wagoneer you may call and speak with my mechanic who will answer any questions you may have in detail at Harts Run Auto, Billy Haberstich, Tel. 412-767-9294.
I have more than 900+ positive feedback during the past 18 years on eBay so please bid with confidence and I will try to answer any and all questions.
Vehicle will be sold with Bill of Sale only - as estate of late owner provided no Title.
Thank you.
