Keep in mind that Chrysler had already come up with their Chrysler Airflow series and all the Detroit manufacturers thought that was going to be the wave of the future. The Lincoln Zephyr was not a radical design like the Chrysler Airflow and was accepted by the general public with sales that were acceptable. The V12 engine in 1940 was expanded to a larger size and the performance of the car was quite peppy. As most collectors know the Lincoln Zephyr led into the Lincoln Continental which itself was also a very handsome cars. In the world of Lincoln collectors there are many that prefer the Lincoln Zephyr design to the Lincoln Continental. The car in this ad was restored several years ago by a Ford collector who was a fanatic with his restorations. He loved the lines most of the Lincoln Zephyr 2-door sedan and therefore purchased the car in this ad and had it restored. As you can see from the pictures the car is in lovely condition (check out the underside of the car photos) and could be used for tours or shows. Since this car is part of a collector’s estate not all the fine details are known about the restoration process but the family remembers the car as being an excellent runner. The pictures show the car to be in highly presentable condition. Just take a look at the interior and you can determine for yourself the quality level of this car. It should be mentioned that there is one cracked door window glass. The Lincoln Motor Car Company began building the Zephyr in 1936. The last one was built in 1942. although the V12 engine continued through the 1948 model year. It was Edsel Ford with his universal foresight that placed an order for a radical prototype in 1932 with Dutch designer John Tjaarda. He had experience with aircraft designer Anthony Fokker. The car was introduced in 1934 as a rear engine automobile. This was hardly a commercial possibility for Ford. It was then that Eugene T. Gregorie skillfully transformed that prototype into the Zephyr. This Lincoln was purchased by its present owners in 1991 with 63. 00 miles on the odometer. It came with the original factory tool kit and jack. It sold new for $1. 47. 00. It is equipped with a 12-cylinder engine of 292 cubic inches and develops 120 h. p. with a top speed of 100 m. p. h. Since its purchase it has undergone a complete restoration and has won a number of prestigious awards. The estate has a copy of the appraisal from December 2012 and the title is clear and in the name of the estate for easy transfer. Information from the appraisal. 1940 Lincoln Zephyr Coupe. club V12 Engine Exterior Color: Dark Blue Interior Color: Beige Upholstery Materials: Broad cloth Indicated Mileage: 67. 79 Wheels: Disc Tires: 7:00X16 white walls Climate Equipment: Heater Transmission Type: 3 speed Other: Lincoln fog lights. One of the best things about the car in this ad is that the estate has set a very low reserve. as it is one of the last cars to be sold from the estate. The estate has asked us not to reveal the reserve but we are happy to discuss as much as we can with any interested party. Of course being an estate car the car is being sold ‘as is and shown and where is’ which is on the west coast. This is truly a handsome car that any collector should be proud to take to a car show or on tour.
