The Pagoda SL is a fast appreciating investment. it is time to attain one while you can. Be sure to visit the Flight Museum if you find yourself in Dallas. Texas. We enjoy driving our cars there for photographs. Texas Classic Cars of Dallas' showroom is located only a few miles away. The exterior displays exceptional paint in the correct Mercedes Beige color. This is a no-hit car that displays several distinguishing features. The car is believed to have had 3 owners. The original owner. who traded it in to a dealer in Albuquerque. NM in 1972. the 2nd and long time owner who purchased it from the dealer that year and owned it until 2003. when he sold it to his son for $1. 00 and he brought it here to Dallas. The car has been extremely well taken care of. Our second owner kept this incredible log of every gallon of gas put in the car. every oil change and much more. It is dated from the day he bout it in 1972 right through to 2003 when he sold it to his son. and right up until 2014. The final entry in the book shows mileage of 111366. There is documentation in the file that shows when the second owner purchased the car from the dealer in Albuquerque. the speedometer was broken. It was replaced by the dealer and we have a signed document from the dealer stating there were 34. 00. miles on the car at tat time and the new speedometer was set at zero. Actual mileage on the car now is 145415. That is an average of only 3030 miles a year. We have all of the receipts of everything done to the car from 1973 to 2010. You can see the special body crease along either headlamp along with the factory weld markings along the inner fender wells. We have the receipt for teh one repaint the car had in 1984. There is literally no mention of body work. just paint and labor. There is no sign of bondo or filler that we can see on the body. This is a beautiful car. 1967 would be the last year of the 230SL model. There were less than 20. 00 of these cars produced total from 1963 until this final year of 1967. Of the 19. 31 produced. less than 1/4 of these were sold in the United States. This is quite a rare car. These cars were considered a success for Mercedes-Benz and were based on the W 111 sedan platform with a reduced wheelbase by 11. 8 inches. The removable hardtop is well-known as a Pagoda hardtop. reminiscent of the Japanese building design. This cars hardtop is in excellent condition. The original headliner is intact as well. also in very good condition. This is simply at attractive car. The wheels of choice are the Mercedes factory color-keyed 14-inch rims fitted with matching center caps & beauty rings. The tires are recent Michelin white wall radials sized at 195/75R14 all around. Open the doors to 1967. This interior features an interior which was replaced in 1984. There is also an estimate in the records of the cost to replace all of these again. The original shifter boot is in need of replacement. The transmission shifts through the gears correctly. including reverse. The upholstery is in need of repair. in 1985. the owner had the seats recovered. the door panels replaced. as well as the carpet. It is obvious that it is time to do the interior again. The dash retains all of the original gauges and woodwork along with the original dash upholstery. The dash pad is worn. mostly on the passenger side edge. where the material has worn throughout. The dash itself showcases excellent factory gauges with functional speedometer & tachometer. The original stereo was replaced some time ago with a Blaupunkt AM/FM Cassette stereo. Under the hood is the factory multi-port fuel-injected 2. 3 litre inline-6 cylinder engine. This is a robust powerplant that runs good. paired with the factory 4-speed manual transmission. This engine was rated at 150 horsepower and feels quite peppy. These are fun cars to drive and this one is no exception. The Pagoda SL's are known for their reliability and build quality. The engine compartment is original. the original insulation is still in place on the firewall along with the identifying plates. The option/color identifying plate is in place. The core support sheet metal. inner fenders. and firewall are solid and original. The inner fender wells are filthy. the paint actually cleans up well in the engine compartment. notably around the color/option identification plate. The factory mat is in place. The spare tire/wheel & jacking equipment is also in place along with the cover & tool bag. The trunk pan is in good condition as well. The convertible soft top has been seldom used and is fully intact. showing very well. The top retracts easily and raises with no issues. The door undersides are in excellent condition. Factory floorboards are intact throughout. The suspension consists of coils and wishbones. The exhaust system is intact. The engine. transmission. and differential undersides are in good condition. Although not indented as competition cars. the 230SL model was known for doing some rally racing and it won a famous one. the grueling Spa-Sofia-Liege Rally.
