Description of 1976 Mercury Cougar

Up for bids here is a genuine 'Barn Find' classic 1976 Mercury Cougar XR7! It is a rolling chassis (no engine or transmission). but was equipped with a 400 V8 and a C6 automatic transmission. This car hails from Montana originally but was in storage here in Michigan for about nine years before I got it. I was able to drive it home a couple of months ago. so it does steer and stop. I removed the engine and transmission for another project and I'm selling the car as a complete roller as you see it here. It is red with a red interior and had a white vinyl Landau top that is ripped and will need to be removed. There is some surface rust where the tear in the top is (see pictures) but no holes or rust-through. It has a power bench seat and manual crank-up windows and a factory 8-track player. It sits on factory wheels and the old tires hold air. This will be a very easy restoration. as the floorpan is super clean with no rust to repair. There is some rust on the lower rear quarter panels behind the rear tires. but just a few small holes. The surface of the car has some light rust and dirt from sitting so long. but it is VERY solid for a vehicle of this era. The shift cable. throttle cable and wiring are in tact. and the transmission crossmember is included so that you could easily have this car running and driving again in a weekend. This car will accept a wide variety of Ford engine and transmission combinations. so you can install a 289/302 small block. a 351 Windsor. a 351 Cleveland. a 351M or 400M. or even a 429/460 big block. A c4. C5. C6 or FMX transmission fits as well. so there are many options. depending on what you intend to do with the car. Included with this car are the following: Alternator Power steering pump (with new lines) Good used Battery with cables BRAND NEW gas tank and straps (not installed) BRAND NEW aluminum radiator Radiator brackets Transmission crossmember Driveshaft As you can see. this vehicle just needs your favorite engine and transmission to be headed back on the road again! It doesn't NEED a new gas tank. the one in the car does not look rusty and it doesn't leak. I just like to start with a new tank on every build that I do. It's up to you. the new tank goes with the car. The radiator is a new aluminum two-row still in the box. The original radiator in this car was wasted. so it is long gone. You get a brand new one to work with! The car had air conditioning when new. but the condensor is gone and the lines have been cut. It will need some parts to make it work again. but the heater core is there. I do not have a title for this car. but depending on where you live. it's very easy to get one for a vehicle this old. It sat abandoned for many years and the previous owners are long out of touch. This would also make an excellent parts car if you are working on a similar Cougar. Montego. Torino. or Elite. Most of these cars have lots of rust and rotted out floor boards. but this one is very solid. Like I said. a very easy restoration. The car rolls. steers and stops. so it will be easy to load onto a trailer for transport. Shipping and all shipping costs are up to YOU. I can store the vehicle free for a reasonable amount of time after the auction (up to one month). after which I will expect a storage fee. Payment is due at the END OF AUCTION via Pay-Pal. You are bidding to buy. so please look the photos over carefully and read the description to be sure if this car is right for you or not. then bid accordingly. If you have any questions or if you want pictures of anything in particular sent to your phone. call or text me at 313-694-8564 and I will be happy to help you out. Thanks for looking. and have a great Summer cruising season!
