Description of 1990 Nissan Other

What is a Nissan Pao? Well, first of all it's Pronounced POW!

TheNissan Paopk10-014894is aretro-styled three-doorhatchbackmanufactured byNissanfor model years 1989-1991, and originally marketed solely in Japan at theirNissan Cherry Stores.

First announced at theTokyo Motor Showin October 1987, the Pao was available with or without a textilesun roof, only available in 4 colors, and was originally sold by reservation only from January 15 through April 14, 1989. Orders were delivered on a first come-first served basis, with the production run of 51,657 selling out in only 3 months!

Because of its origins at Pike Factory, Nissan's special project group, the Pao — along with theNissan Figaro,Be-1andS-Cargo— are known as Nissan's "Pike cars."

In 2011, noted design critic Phil Patton, writing for the New York Times, called the Pike cars "the height ofpostmodernism"[3]and "unabashedly retro, promiscuously combining elements of theCitroën 2CV,Renault 4, Mini [and]Fiat 500.

The designs of the Pike cars (excepting the Figaro) are usually credited to Naoki Sakai, who also worked for Olympus, where he brought back "the brushed aluminium look". Sakai also helped design Toyota's laterWiLLcars, which echo the Pike series.
The chassis is straight from a Nissan Micra (so parts are easy to get) and hasrack and pinionsteering, independent suspensionwithstrutsin front and4-linksandcoil springsin back. Brakes are discs up front and drums in the rear. It has a clamshell hatch in back, meaning the glass section swings up and the bottom portion opens down to create atailgate. The compact Pao requires just 14.4ft to turn and delivers up to 51mpg in the city and 79mpg at a steady 37mph. I average about 58 mpg.The tires are 155/SR12 Bridgestone Blizzaks and they're in nearly new condition.

OK, now you know more about what it is, what about this car in particular?

This is aBeige hard top with theautomatic transmission. The interior is an art-deco masterpiece and has the elusive factory originalcasette player / radio that can be slid out and installed in a rarer-still boombox (i've never seen one).

Automatic Transmission, works perfectly and is easy to drive with a very light feel.

If you're looking for a manual, check out my other auction, I've gota green, 5 speed listed.

The power assisted Rack and Pinion steering and a wheel at every corner make this think handle like a go-kart. It is an absolute blast to drive.

The top speed is around 85mph and I usually cruise at 70+ with no problem.

I'm 6'1 and there's surprising amount of room in here, I'm not cramped at all. And unlike the Figaro, the PAO has a real back seat that can hold 2 adult humans. There's an impressive amount of hatchback space as well. We call it the Tardis because it's bigger on the inside.

We did an oil change as soon as we got it. The japanese love servicing their cars and this one is no exception. There are Nissan dealer service stickers all over this thing. The timing belt was serviced at 82,000 miles. I would have no reservations driving this car cross-country.

The tires are new-looking bridgestone blizzaks, there are some really cool 12" wheel options for these cars available. It runs on the factory steel wheels.

The battery is strong and holds a charge very well. The car starts easily and warms up right away, all the lights and features work well.

Keep in mind this is a japanese market stereo and it only goes up to about 89.9 FM so forget about anything other than NPR or college radio. The tape player works well but it doesn't have a whole lot of OOomph. Don't throw the head unit away, they're super-rare and worth around $500 on ebay. Put in a new radio but hang on to the old one.

The body on this car is fantastic, no corrosion in the arches or even in front of the rear wheels where water tends to collect. It's pretty clear this car was loved and there is some sort of coating like waxoyl or FluidFilm on all the metal and inside the door sills and wheel wells. The underside of this car is better than any 25 year old car you've ever seen.

Speaking of that, this car qualifies for historical registration (plates) in all 50 states. In Ohio that means you keep the same plates for 50 years and pay only $32 ONCE!

This Car actual VIN is PK10-111002

In most states You'll be exempt from emissions testing, vehicle inspections etc.

This car has a clean ohio title. You will need to do nothing special to get a title in your state. I've done all of the heavy lifting here.

I can provide you with all of the Importation paperwork for this car if you need it. I'm a licensed bonded importer so all of the paperwork is legit and ready to go.

Regarding Shipping: I can drive this car up to 200 miles at $2 per mile if you'd like to meet somewhere, or have me deliver it to you. Or, there is a U-haul right next to my workshop that has a tow dolly you can rent for $100 for a 3 day 1-way rental. I frequently travel to Annapolis, so it's no problem if you're along that corridor.
