SUPER LOW RESERVE ON THIS CAR NO WHERE NEAR ASKING PRICE!
I can only tell you what I know about the car it is up to the buyer to look over the car here in Georgia for any following information. All the information I can give is to the best of my knowledge but please feel free to check out car before purchasing. There are no guarantees on this vehicle and vehicle is being sold where is as is condition. Buyer please arrange your own shipping.
SUMMARY:
So i have had this car about a week and the story goes as follows: I was interested in a 1967 Oldsmobile 442 convertible but the owner would not sell it to me unless I bought this 68 coupe and a lot of parts that have been collected over the years. So I worked out a package price and got the sale done. I parked the 67 in a storage facility and now need to sell this to start building my convertible. The previous owner stated that he owned this car for about 3 years.SHE HAS HAD 3 TOTAL PREVIOUS OWNERS AND ALWAYS A GEORGIA CAR. Trim had started to be removed as well as door handles and locks so car could be repainted the correct way but he lost momentum and there she sat. Previous owner did drive the car about once a month to keep her going. He stated the car has always been a daily driver her whole life and had never been restored. She is a numbers matching car so in my mind shes definitely worth restoring.
EXTERIOR:
From first glance the paint look good on the car from about 10 feet away. Once you get up on the car you realize it was a repaint and where the chrome was on the car they just taped it off and painted around it. There seems to be a few bubbles in the paint 1. back half of front fender. After feeling it does not appear to be rust but bad prep work. But all in all she does shine pretty good for always being a daily driver.
As for body work, all i can tell is there are a few spots on the car that have had bondo on vehicle. Around both quarters on lower front and by driver side lower door where quarter and door meet. I am not a body guy so please verify on your own. All the body lines appear to be good on the car except for front fenders where door meets. The previous owner stated that in order to remove trim the front fenders had to be remove, i believe this is true and they just were never reinstalled using the right gaps because trim still had to go back on so why worry about it now? Top was replaced about 4 years ago and is in good shape.
ENGINE
400 cubic inch
Car does have original "C" heads see picture. So when i got the car the engine was running "ok" but not great and I figured I would tune her up. So I drive down to summit racing here in Georgia and bought new Taylor HEI distributor, new plug, new wires. I installed her and set the timing and she runs so much better. She has a little hesitation when you get on her but i believe the return spring for the vacuum secondary is bad in the carburetor, easy fix just didn't do it, she starts right up every time without any problems.
You could tell that the engine had never been cleaned or painted so i figured i would just clean her up a bit. I purchased gold paint for engine and black for engine compartment. I did paint the engine while it was in the car and in my opinion still doesn't look good but if only you saw it when i got her it looks 1000% better.
I did purchase new chrome valve covers and new fuel filter and installed them as well.
TRANSMISSION
TURBO 400
All I can say is she shifts in all the gears and hits all the gears driving down the road
INTERIOR
Like i previous stated the original carpet was in car and nasty condition so i replaced with new. I do not know if all the correct peices of interior are there but i do know the following. Center console in good shape, dash is solid and most of the gauges work. seats in in ok condition, rear seat ok condition, headliner in great condition. Door handles and window handles need clips to stay on, door panels solid and in great condition. All in all interior i would rate a solid 7 of 10 . clean presentable interior no smells. When i did replace the carpet all floors were in great original condition with no patches present.
ON THE ROAD:
So here in Georgia once you have a bill of sale you can drive a car on the road without a tag for 7 days before you have to register it. So I did just that. I have driven this car about 50 total miles and she does run well. She doesn't have any weird noises just normal road noises. She drives straight down the rad and stops straight with hands off the steering wheel. Brakes seem good. ebrake works good. If anything i think return spring on carb needs to be replaced but maybe rebuilding the whole thing would not be a bad idea.
In closing I will say this. Please keep in mind that she has always been a daily driver her whole life and really will not take much to restore her. All floors and trunk are very solid as she has always been a Georgia car her whole life. I could have glued the trim back on instead of taking off fenders but I just don't have time to do that and the car deserves more then that. I did purchase new 442 emblems for fenders and new chrome door handles and locks from year one that go with the car as well.
I have set the reserve low in relation to the buy it now price. The only formula I have come up with to figure out worth is follows
1. If the car had no engine and transmission it I feel car would be worth about $4-4500
2. If the car was a running driving car with a random engine and transmission in her price would be around $8-9000
3. The fact that shes always been a Georgia car with perfect floors and trunk add $3500-4000
4. The fact that shes a numbers matching car add $3500-4000
5. that makes a total price of around $14000-$19000 in my mind
6. I am not an expert but I feel my calculation is accurate. With a low reserve no where near my estimate I hope she goes to a good home.
