Description of 1986 Oldsmobile 442 w/ Low Original Miles - Show Winner

1986 Oldsmobile 442!
1986 Oldsmobile 442
60,082 Original Miles - 1 of 4273 Built - Show Winner

You are viewing a privately owned 1986 Oldsmobile 442!
(Cutlass Salon with the rare W42 "442" Option Package.)
Classic Cars Online is helping the owner with the presentation and listing of this outstanding vehicle.
You will be purchasing this vehicle directly from the private owner.
She is only the second owner and has owned this beauty for the last 30 years.
This 442 has only 60,082 original miles and is in excellent physical and mechanical condition.
It has been very well maintained over the years.
**NOTE: The "AutoCheck" vehicle history report that eBay provides with their listings, is showing 1 minor accident.
We asked the owner about that because she is stating "NO Accidents"! She doesn't remember any minor fender bender,
shopping cart in a parking lot, or an event that would have triggered that entry into the system.
We are not sure why that is listed. "Clerical error"? Maybe, not sure, but the owner is standing by her statment and saying "No accidents".
While we are talking about clerical errors, AutoCheck also has the mileage listed at 142,520 back in 1993 for one of their entries.
I'm sure that should be only 42,520 miles. I don't think a seven year old vehicle in '93 would have 142,520 miles. (20,360 miles per year??)
We will try to describe and go over most of the car, please read and view all of the 99 pictures listed below.
Would you buy a car on ebay with four pictures and one paragraph of description? NO.
That is why at Classic Cars Online, our listings will go over and show every area of the vehicle that is up for auction.
Bid with confidence!

Paint / Body: The vehicle has its original two-tone color scheme. Medium Gray Metallic (Code #15) on the upper area with Silver Metallic (Code #12) on the lower. The two colors are separated by a Gold metallic accent stripe(s). The upper gray section was repainted in 2003 after a worker at a detail shop damaged the rooftop paint. The lower light silver/rough texture factory GM paint is untouched and still original to the vehicle. The owner has an extra set of four gold vinyl "4-4-2" decal numbers that will also go along with the vehicle. The paint is in excellent condition with no scratches, orange peel, checking, or fading. The car is solid and rust free. (Was rust proofed.) It still retains all its original body panels. The body is straight and all of the sheet metal panels align up with the proper gaps. There is one very small door ding on the driver's side door that can only be seen if you are looking for it. (An easy fix by a "paintless dent repair" person.) A '83-'84 Hurst/Olds style rear spoiler was added approximately in 1989 to the rear deck lid. The car is equipped with factory external "Fiber Optic" lamp monitors on the front fenders which are considered a rare option on these '85-'87 442's. The car has not seen snow and has always been stored in the garage. A bra/nose cover along with a Sagaz car cover with locking cable and case will go with the vehicle.
Exterior Trim: All of the stainless trim pieces around the windows are still original and in great condition. There are a few small scratches on the trim molding near the windshield from when the stainless was removed to paint the upper section of the car. All of the original bezels, headlights, parking lights, side marks, chrome taillights, and reverse lights look great with no fading or tarnishing. The chrome door handlers are nice with no pitting or marks. The car has a factory power antenna that is working great. The rubber seals and weather stripping is all very nice which includes the windows, doors, and the trunk. The factory hood ornament is not faded or discolored.
Interior: The "Medium Dark Gray" cloth/velour interior is still original. The over all condition of the interior is excellent. The velour bucket seats and door panels are not ripped, worn or faded. The leather wrapped sport steering wheel has a wrinkle in the leather which does not affect its use. The current Alpine radio installed has a detachable faceplate with a 40 Watt Jenson amplifier mounted in the trunk. The original premium seek/scan radio with cassette player and separate treble and bass controls will go along with the car. The factory center console cassette tape holder is also included with the car. The factory original power antenna is workings wonderfully. The original door lock pulls with the round tops were replaced with straight type door lock pulls. (The original set is included but not currently installed.) The padded dash, center console, instrument bezels, package shelf and the other interior control knobs/switches all look great without showing any of the typical wear, cracks or fading. The carpet is clean and stain free. The headliner was replaced and looks original. The aluminum "Fisher-Body" door sills are nice with only a few of the typical wear scuff marks. Power seat, Tilt Steering Wheel, Rally Gauge Cluster, Dual Remote Sport Mirrors, Rear Defogger, Cruise Control, Power Windows, Power Locks.
Engine Compartment: The engine compartment still has the original stock appearance and is very clean. This vehicle only has 60K original miles. The 307 Cu. In. (5.0 Liter) High Output V8 engine has a factory four-barrel carburetor with a dual exhaust system. The only upgrade that was done was a computer chip was installed for extra horse power. The original computer chip is included but not currently installed into the car. The car is equipped with it's original factory dual snorkel air cleaner with chrome lid. Hoses have been replaced. The air conditioning was just gone over and repaired this June. It is blowing cold. Bolted to the power plant is the original 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. It shifts out nice and firm with no problems. (See the "Mechanical" section below for more details on drive train.)
Trunk Compartment: The trunk compartment is in new condition also. It basically looks like it did when it rolled out of the dealership. The spare tire, jack, jacking tools and tire cover are all in their proper places. The black trunk carpet is in very nice condition with no stains or wear marks. The added 40 watt amplifier is mounted in the trunk.
Glass: All of the tinted glass is original accept for the windshield. The windshield was replaced in 2006 after it was dinged by a small stone. The rest of the glass pieces have the proper date coding and logos. The window tint film was added in approximately 1989. It is still in great condition with no rips or scratches. The power windows are working correctly along with the factory rear window defogger.
Wheels / Tires: The correct factory chrome 15" x 7" Olds Super Stock wheels are still installed. These wheels have the correct 442 gold accent area painted along with the correct gold pinstripping. They are in excellent condition. When the vehicle was stored during the winter months, wax was applied on the rims which were stored off the car. One of the rims has a small scratch in the gold striping around the rim from a wheel weight. (An easy fix) The wheels are fitting with the correct chrome center caps which have the "442" logo on them. Mounted on these factory chrome wheels are BF Goodrich Radial T/A P215/65R15 white letter tires. They have a lot of life left with very nice thread. All of the original lug nuts are great with not a lot of tool marks on them. The valve stems have the correct gray colored caps installed.
Undercarriage: When the current owner purchased this vehicle from the original owner back in 1988, she bought it to use as her "Everyday" vehicle, so she had it rust proofed. After having it a few months, she inquired to General Motors on how many 442’s were built. ("442" W42 Option Package.) The answer was 4,273 (Documented from GM). So, before winter, she bought a "Winter beater" car and started storing this beauty each winter for the past 30 years. Even though the bottom is coated with rust proofing, this 442 hasn't been in any nasty winter weather.
Nine times out of ten, people selling a car would not talk about or take any photos of the undercarriage. The undercarriage tells you a lot about the car, that is why we took pictures of this area. This car has never seen salty roads and the undercarriage is very nice. Sure it could be wiped down a little and detailed, but it is stock and solid.
Mechanical: Engine/Transmission:
The original 307 Cu. In. (5.0 Liter) "High Output"(HO) 180HP engine is all stock and never has been modified or worked on. It runs great with no known problems. It doesn't smoke or tick. It does have a slight oil drip which is usual for these GM cars that haven't been driven that frequently. The 200-4R 4 speed automatic w/overdrive transmission is working great. The transmission shifts out and down shifts great. Connected to the transmission is a stock floor shifter with center console. The rear end has the factory 3.73:1 gears.
Brakes:
The stock power front disc and rear drum brakes are in good working condition with no know problems or leaks. They do not pull, fade, vibrate or make any noise. The parking brake is also working correctly.
Suspension:
It has the special "F41" Firm Ride and Handling suspension package. The four shocks were replaced. Originally the vehicle came with rear air shocks. This style of shock was not replaced, however, the air line portion set up is still on the car. It sits, rides and drives great with no problems or noises with this suspension. It drives straight and doesn't pull. It has power steering that is working with no issues.
Exhaust:
The factory dual exhaust was replaced some time ago with the correct dual exhaust system. The tailpipes exit in the correct location behind the rear wheels and have chrome tips attached. The passenger side of the "Y" pipe was repaired this June. The exhaust sounds great with this 307 High Output engine.
Manuals - Books - Shows: The vehicle comes with Original owner’s manual, Salesmen’s book with options, colors etc., Chiltons Cutlass 1970-87 book, GM 1986 Body Service Manual, MOTOR Auto Repair 1983-1989, Mitchell Domestic Cars Tune-Up Mechanical Service & Repair 1986, Mitchell Tune -Up Specifications/Procedures, Computerized Engine Controls, Fuel Systems, ignition System, Vol 3 Chiltons Auto Repair Manual 1980-1987, 1986 Oldsmobile Service Manuals, Volumes 1 & 2 GM Service Manual (The “big” book) and much other documentation too.
This vehicle has won multiple show awards and trophies over the years. It still would do very well and any type of show the vehicle is entered in.
