Description of 1939 Oldsmobile Other

1939 OLDSMOBILE CUSTOM COUPE

This 1939 Custom Oldsmobile Coupe first appeared at the 2009 Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, AZ – Lot #1538:It was listed as a one-off custom chopped and channeled '39 Olds Coupe, powered by a 350 Chevy crate engine with less than 5,000 miles, 350 Turbo transmission, custom cream color ultra leather interior, power steering, power front disc brakes and drum rear brakes, modern front and rear suspension, '59 Cadillac tail lights, '39 Ford head lights, custom molded dash and center console, been chopped 3" and channeled 4". Painted in a custom Candy Red with Candy Gold flames.

The coupe re-appeared at the 2016 Leake Collector Car Auction in Dallas, TX – Lot #1205:It had a custom “Distressed” paint job. Mechanically it was relatively unchanged but the door actuators didn’t work, the passenger side window was broken and the brake master cylinder was leaking. We purchased the '39 and drove it to JB Corvette Specialists and Custom Restorations in Dallas, TX for Cosmetic and Mechanical updates.

Cosmetically, all of the exterior trim was removed, the car was block sanded, the body filler from roof was removed and the roof was straightened. The car was then filled, smoothed and primed. Sealer was applied, followed by 4 coats of Black Cherry and 4 coats of clear. The paint looks good, however there are some flaws. The engine compartment was also refreshed and it has a clean look. The custom ultra leather interior from the original build remains unchanged and could use an overhaul.

Mechanically both door actuators were replaced, the carburetor was rebuilt, the A/C was serviced, the radiator was flushed, the thermostat was replaced, a new temperature gauge was installed, a New Brake Master Cylinder was installed, New Valve Covers were installed, a remote battery cutoff was added, new trunk support rods were installed, an Electric Fuel Pump was added and the left rear wheel cylinder was repaired. During the mechanical restoration it was determined that original build was based on a GM G-Platform (e.g. El Camino, Monte Carlo, Malibu ... the replacement master cylinder was coded to a 1981 El Camino).

There are still plenty of projects left to take this 81 year old to the next level, however, in the meantime it’s a blast to cruise it around town, or to drive it to “Cars & Coffee”. The car runs great, but it is not curb, railroad crossing, gutter or pot hole friendly, because it sits extremely low.The furthest I have driven the car in a single day is about 120 miles (from my home in North Texas to Dallas and back), in the middle of the summer on a 90 degree+ day and it didn't have any issues. With that said, I have mostly only driven the car locally on weekends. If it was going to be driven on a daily basis, I would probably raise it a couple of inches and would consider replacing the tires (the current tires look great and show very little wear, but they are more than 10 years old).

The car is parked on my epoxy garage floor and it has no mystery leaks under it. I keep it on a battery tender, and it starts right up.If you want to inspect the car or if you would like to talk to the mechanics that did the recent refresh please let me know.

The car is garaged in Dallas, TX and has a clear Texas Title. The car is sold AS-IS and WHERE-IS. All shipping costs and arrangements are the responsibility of the buyer.

Thanks,
John
