Description of 1983 Alfa Romeo Spider |
Despite the shortcomings listed above. this is a reliable and fun car. When I purchased it two years ago. it had been sitting a long time. The person I bought it from had started to correct the problems. He said he had a new clutch installed with new clutch master and slave cylinders. I do not have a receipt for the clutch work but it does look like that was done. I had the fuel tank professionally cleaned and sealed. replaced the tank sending unit and in-tank pump. I also replaced the injectors. fuel pressure regulator. and fuel hoses. Additionally. I replaced the air intake hood and manifold hoses as well as a full tune-up. The radiator was professionally cleaned and rodded-out and an electric cooling fan was installed to replace the deteriorated fixed fan. plus a new thermostat and most cooling hoses. It has new shift boots (inner and outer). The tires look almost new but are date-coded for 2007. To me it looks like someone took trim off and otherwise prepared it for repainting but never finished putting everything back together. I replaced most of the missing emblems and trim. the paint work is decent and the car looks pretty good. I have driven this car often and taken it on many trips of 200 miles and more. I think it could be driven just about any distance as it is now. As far as the mileage- there is a sticker in the glovebox showing that the speedometer assembly was replaced when the car had approx 3300 miles on it. the speedo cable was broken when I got the car. but I think that was a result of the clutch replacement. I changed the cable immediately. The actual mileage is probably about 81000. There is no rust except a small amount near the upper drivers door hinge at the body and some bubbling in the paint on the valance under the rear bumper. As to the work I have performed. I was an Import Car Technician for 40 years. including working at an Alfa dealership. I was an ASE Certified Master Auto Tech for over 30 years. Unfortunately. circumstances require that I find a new home for my Alfa. |
