Description of 1994 Alfa Romeo 164 |
Up for bids is a 1994 Alfa Romeo 164 LS with 115K miles. This is my last Alfa. A change in work schedule and summer plans will not allow me to spend much time with this car. It's time to let her go to someone who will. Purchase price includes some parts not pictured: cover and seal which fits near windshield under the hood. nearly new Sanden A/C compressor. defrost vent plastic cover in near-perfect condition (current one is broken in many places) and the center inserts for the wheels. Two sets of keys are included. The good: less than 5K on new struts all around. less than 10K miles on timing belt. new speakers. interior in good condition (for a 21 year old car). nearly new tires (less than 1K miles). new passenger-side inner & outer tie rod ends. all seat motors work. all windows open & close. all power door locks work. passes Georgia emissions tests. The bad: A/C bearing on current compressor is bad and must be replaced before this car can be driven much; needs a front-end alignment and possibly replacement rubber parts; rear driver's side door VERY difficult to close (see photos for the "caution tape" reminder to not open the door!); remote fuel door release inoperative due to electrical issues (user must pull "emergency" release in trunk. [Dashboard trunk release works fine. ])The ugly: a previous owner "improved" the interior by adding stick-on wood trim which did not age well. where removed (or fallen off) hardened adhesive has remained; the car is in serious need of a paint job; the wheels could use refinishing; front badge faded (admiring bystanders will need to go to rear of vehicle to know it's an Alfa); PO lightly bumped into garage wall causing minor damage to driver's side bumper and loss of side marker light lens. As with any Alfa. the car is a rolling. driving project. And as with all 164's. this car is a marvel of engineering and comfort (I mean. come on. an all-alloy DOHC 24V 3. 0L engine with VVT and one-per-cylinder coil packs in 1994???) Even in its current condition. the car provokes compliments and comments everywhere she goes. This car may very well be my final Alfa. ending a series of 10 cars I've owned and loved over the past 25 years. (Although. I suspect that some day I might give in to temptation and buy a nicely-sorted early-70s GTV. ) With a new job and increased responsibilities. I just don't have the time to continue forward with this car. For Alfisti active on the AlfaBB. I'm "eric_h". member since 2005 and an Alfa Digest member since 1997. |
