Description of 1964 Austin Healey 3000 Mark III BJ8 G90 |
Here's is a "big Healey" BJ8 ready to finish restoration for pleasure or show. One of the most sought-after British sports cars getting hard to find with prices continuing to rise. Major engine and mechanical work restored as described below so you will know what needs to be done to get it running. This car has had following restoration Engine:Completely removedand restored with following upgrades:valve guides manganese/bronze, stainless steel exhaust valves to use today's unleaded gas. Engine has been fogged with all port capped and turns easily. Engine has no fluids which is why it was fogged after rebuild. Engine and transmission have new mounting blocks Engine has not been timed Drive shaft has not been installed New clutch - pressure plate, clutch disc, and throw out (release) bearing. Master cylinder reserve tank has been inspected and cleaned. Radiator has been flushed and checked for leaks. Rebuilt both carburetors. Distributor restored and tested on Sun Distributor Testing Machine Generator brushes and armature have been cleaned and bench tested; works fine Starter has had brushes and armature cleaned and bench tested; works fine Water pump inspected; works fine Oil filter assembly has been cleaned and inspected Heater blower - tested and works Heater core (box) flushed and inspected and doesn't leak; works and needs to be installed Two horns inspected and installed. One works, one does not. Windshield wiper motor has been tested and works - needs to be installed. Additional Information Transmission: Electric overdrive. Previous owner indicated overdrive works fine. Solenoid has been inspected and works. Brakes: Not inspected. Chassis moves freely so they're not locked up. The struts in the engine compartment look good. The support system housing looks good. Ther e is no exhaust system Like all British cars with Lucas wiring, it needs a new wire harness (easily obtained from Moss Motors) Exterior: Original color was British Racing Green. Previous owner changed to blue and light blue. There are dings, dents, and paint chips and scrapes. No signs of bondo No signs of rust on the body 60 spoke wire wheels. Tires in good condition Windscreen glass on passenger side has wiper blade marks Convertible frame: Opens and closes easily; has straps and pull handle, but no cover Convertible springs need to be installed Frame (Chassis Assembly):Appears to be solid. The outriggers need to be replaced (obtain from Moss). Rocker panels are good Doors, trunk, and bonnet alignments are even. The Healey is known for not having good spacing. Doors close and latch properly. Firewall is good Interior: In 1964 Austin Healey's new car's fascia displayed its speedometer and tachometer directly in front of the driver. Also, the upholstery was now in Ambla vinyl, therefore, I believe the seats are vinyl. Front seats have been reupholstered. I believe the rear jump seats and back interior are original. Adjustable steering wheel Inside door handles and window cranks are not original to the car. Windows roll up and down. Driver side seat slides move easily. Passenger side is missing one of the seat slides. Does have its tonneau support rail (one of the first things usually lost but does not have the tonneau cover). The hard clear coat on the wood dash is crackled There floor boards and trunk floor has large rush holes, so need to be replaced which is typcial Previous owner cut and put in carpet. Misc. Car comes with British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certified Copy of factory Record Shop manual Machine shop receipt Parts receipts There are miscellaneous parts original with the car that have not been installed. Look at the pictures. Also, look over the pictures closely. I am sure there are missing pieces which can be easily obtained from Moss Motors. Note: I combined some pictures in order to get more posted, e.g. R/L doors, rockers, etc. Stored in garage Selling because we moved and need the garage space. Vehical Identification Information: Engine numbers 29-K-RU-H/3178, Chassis H-BJ8-L/28612, Body 73425, and even has its original key #901 per the attached British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate This car has no reserve. Someone will be owning this car. Will assist buyer in shipping, however, buyer is responsible for all shipping costs. No implied warranty; being sold as is for continued restoration. Ask questions. Look over photos carefully. Will gladly provide more pictures. I want new owner to be happy with this car. I've tried my best to represent it correctly, but I am not a Healey expert. Inspections are welcomed and encouraged.
