Description of 1930 Austin Sixteen/Six |
1930 AUSTIN Sixteen / Six Runs & Drives Always attracts more attention at car shows then the ones I've spent countless hours restoring! Originally a 4 door Convertible (Tourer) from what I understand during or after WWII in England Gas rations were stricter and taxes were more for cars then commercial vehicles and many older cars were converted for that reason. This has many original parts down to the leather gators on the front springs. When I bought it the front seat was actually the original rear seat and made it difficult to drive so replaced it with some buckets from a Model A.The rear seat does come with it. The original Gas tank is rotted but is good for a pattern and parts. The Hobson telegauge and Autovac were gone or rotted. It has a gas tank from a 1988 Toyota truck in it now and an electric fuel pump. The car left the factory 12 Volt Negative ground . I removed the bed floor because it was very rotted and was afraid of leaving wood on the show field and hurting other vehicles. If the buyer is going to have it shipped I will put in a temporary bed floor to carry all the parts that go with it. It has new 6.00 20 tires and tubes with only test miles and on & off the show field. I never registered it to drive on the road. I do have a Virginia Title which says it is 1931. I decided not to fight with DMV over that. Last time it was registered was in NY in 1987 and they had it as a 1929 on their registration sticker. By looking up the original license plate #OG1892 in the (DVLA) British Department of Motor vehicles the first registration was 02-06-1930. Also says" Date of Liability 25-03-1986 which I believe is the date exported and that the color was originally Cream. I had many ideas of what to restore this into but every time I mention restoring this Austin everyone insists it be left as is. I have many parts and literature that comes with the vehicle. Parts and support are available through the Vintage Austin Register. Some of what comes with the car.
